(Closed) Entrance: do we need one?

I’ve been trying to decide the same thing – we really want to go to our cocktail hour because we hired an awesome band to play (just during the cocktail hour, we have a ‘regular’ wedding band for the rest of the reception), and we really want to see them.

We’ve decided that we will go to the cocktail hour and skip the ‘entrance’ but we will be ‘announced’ for our first dance after the dinner has been served. It seemed like a good compromise for us!

Are you really attached to doing an entrance? If not, I say enjoy your cocktail hour and mingle with your guests! There will be lots of people who you want to have the time to chat with and you can still be announced as husband and wife later if you want.

I kind of hate entrances so we are enjoying the cocktail hour and then traipsing on into the reception area along with everyone else!

Well, we didn’t want to do an entrance, so we just wandered into the cocktail hour when we were done with pics.  I was hoping to sneak in, but everyone applauded, which was nice.

Anyhow, I think you can totally mingle and then do an entrance later if you want.  An formal entrance is really a formality and ceremonial tradition anyhow, so I don’t think it is important whether people have technically seen you yet or not.  Know what I mean?

We’re definitely going to our cocktail hour! I’m guessing we’ll either linger behind as guests get seated and then be introduced, or just wait to be introduced til our first dance. A “grand entrance” isn’t super important to either of us, so we’re fine with however it ends up working out.

@PDX bride- we used the coctail hour for photos and had a grand entrance, but we invited everyone to the Rehearsal Dinner so we had already mingled a lot, plus i didn’t want to do a first look. we also had our dj announce all the BM/GM and our officiant, so they could have a moment of being in the spotlight too. it was really fun!
