Bees, he proposed yesterday! (And I said yes, of course!) sorry the pics are so big, I wrote the post out before I resized them and my iPad doesn’t seem to want to copy this so I don’t lose it.
We both had the day off yesterday, so we decided spur-of-the-moment to go on a short hike near where we live to take pictures and see if we could find any flowers yet. The pathway goes to a beautiful waterfall, and then there are stairs built into the side of a steep almost-cliff which lead to a multitude of different paths and places to scramble up a short mountain. We stopped at the waterfall to take some pictures there and eat part of our lunch, our plan was then to go up to the nearest peak on the mountain.
when we got up the stairs, though, we decided to wander off a different path we hadn’t been on before. We ended up further upstream from the big waterfall, in a little cutaway from the creek that was filled with gorgeous, moss covered rocks. My fiancé (!) sat on a broad rock, and I took out my camera to try and capture some of what I saw there. It was a beautiful, meditative spot with the smell of fir trees and the soft sound of two small waterfalls.
After about 5 or 10 minutes, he asked me to come and sit with him. He mumbled something about “guess im going to do this the old fashioned way,” got on his knees in front of me, grabbed my hands and said, “will you marry me?” He pulled my ring box out of his backpack and handed it to me! I started smiling, shaking, and crying all at once before I said, “yes, of course, I’ll marry you!” we hugged for a long time, laughing, shaking and smiling; then he asked if I wanted to celebrate with champagne. He pulled a couple of collapsible wine glasses out of his backpack, then he went to the stream where he had placed a mini bottle of champagne to chill in the cold mountain water. We toasted each other and my beautiful ring, then used mostly his camera (he had thought to bring along a tripod and a shutter remote) to take pictures. My camera is not designed for selfies, but I did manage to take a couple of our champagne and ring, plus our hands holding each other! (Please excuse his cuticles, he bashed his hand at work.)
We called my parents and sent them a picture of my ring when we were there (my hands were shaking when I wrote my mom’s cellphone number and I accidentally sent it to some poor person in Oregon as well, whoops!) and then went on the rest of our hike up the top of the mountain. (No pictures, by then it was so windy I was afraid to take off my backpack to get my camera out). We called his parents’ place later in the evening to let them know, too. Both sets of parents are over the moon! I’m so happy! 😀
