Okay here is my little rant, I ordered my dress back in November (black Friday) I was a litttle hesistant to do this but the reps told me it would be in by May for sure so I did it. I got a notice saying the designer would be shipping April 15. Today I get home and there is a message from the bridal store to call. I was soooooo EXCITED buttt then I got on the phone, only to be told that the dress is now coming in in JULY with no specific date. I asked when app. and they said probably the middle. My wedding is AUGUST 17. I ordered my dress in the size that fit my widest measurement (my waist- not curvy so it throws my size off) it is going to need a good amount of alterations – thankfully its a-line so not super tight fitting.
Is this enough time for alterations?
What should I do???

@mrs_tortoise: that is a short amount of time for alterations but it definitely can be done. I needed alot of alterations done to my dress and it was finished in a few weeks.

I would call every couple of weeks until they give a better date than “some time in July…” Just explain that your wedding is in mid-August, so you want a firm date in order to schedule your alterations accordingly (since time will be short).

@mrs_tortoise: You will be fine 🙂 Are you getting alterations done at the shop where you ordered your dress? If so, I’m sure they’ll be happy to work with you since they’re ‘at fault’ (I mean not really; it’s the dressmaker’s fault, but you know what I mean) for you not getting it until so late. Worst case, you might have to pay someone a little extra dough to get it ready in time, but those little ladies can sew pretty quick with the right motivation!

It sounds like there’s something wrong…I wonder if the bridal salon lied to you and forgot to place the order for the dress. Even designer dresses don’t usually take that long to come in. I bought a Tara Keely dress, which is from the same person who makes Lazaro, and it came in in about 4-5 months.

Alterations only took about 2 weeks for me but I suppose it depends on the person. Sounds to me like you have plenty of time and you aren’t supposed to alter until close to the wedding anyway. I’d be more concerned that they will continue to push it back

Don’t freak out, I would call and schedule an alterations appt. asap, though. I would lean towards booking at the end of July, since you do not have an actual pick up date. The alterations people will be able to make it work.

You can get alterations done in a month…I had 3 rounds (first fitting, second, final and brought it home w/ me on the final) and each time they were like “Oh you can come back in a week (I didn’t want to bring my dress home that early and have other plans and whatnot, so I took more like 2-3 weeks between appointments since I had the luxury of time)

My alterations were done in like a week…for the bodice part. The skirt is being hemmed and the bustle is done. It was like a week and a half total. Just find someone good.
Why does your wedding date say November 5th if you’re wedding is in August?

Eeek! I’m a nervous bride so that would totally freak me out, but the other posters are right, you will be fine.
I totally understand your stress though!!
Also don’t be shy! Call them all the time! Make sure they know that you need your dress! (Be polite, but stand your ground!)

Alterations can be done in a short time BUT you should make an appointment well in advance.
I’d me more worried about the dress not coming in on time if I were you. May to July delay is huge, what if they decide to postpone to September .
What’s their deal this should take 3 months tops.

@peachacid: Originally Fiance and I were going to go for Nov. 5 but since he is still in school we decided August would be better, I just never bothered to change the date! Lol
Thanks everyone, I think I will call back every 2 weeks or so and check the status and definitely I will book the alterations appointment now!
