We used escort cards because it is easier to make last minute changes. If you have one seating chart printed, you need to get it re- done if you have to change the seating plan. Escort cards can also be used to indicate choice of entree and double as a favor e.g chocolates, succulents- there are a zillion ideas online.

Seating charts are not necessarily harder to find names if the names are also done alphabetically rather than by table. Just and add “Table2” following the name.

Is your wedding indoor or outdoor?  We did escort cards for an outdoor wedding, and I realized the day before that they were going to blow away.  Thankfully, my caterer had a place to hang them which she lent to us.

So outdoor wedding, I recommend a seating chart!

We did escort cards that were color coordinated to what people ordered. Blue accents meant steak, silver meant chicken, etc!

pussinboots07 :  Escort cards don’t have to be simple cards on a table. Many are attched to something like a ladder, a cable etc so they are fine outside.

We are using power point to print the names assigned to each table and put those in a 4×6 frame on each table

I’m doing a table assignments with the poster. We’ll be doing them alphabetically by last name so it’s easy for guests to find their names.

What are escort cards?! (My husband just tried to Google it because he doesn’t know either and all he came up with were adult escort services!)

secondtimer18 :  Escort cards have the guest’s name on it and their table assignment. They are displayed at the entry to the recception. Guests pick up their card, take it with them to find their table, then place it in front of their plate, like a placecard.

It can also be used to indicate the choice of entree to the waitstaff by having a stamp, ribbon, different color card or trim etc. that the staff can recognize.

It can also do double duty as a favor.

    secondtimer18 :  LOL!

They’re little cards that direct the guests to what table they will be sitting at.

    OP: We did escort cards…

I think cards are easier for the guests. It can be tough for everyone to be crowded around a single poster trying to find their name.

We had an escort card for each couple that identified their table and then everyone had an assigned seat and a place card at their place at the table. We had to have assigned seats so the servers knew where to bring each entree choice.

We did a seating chart, alphabetical by name. We had 2 of them – one outside the room and one inside. It seemed like a simpler option.

Lol, thanks for the explanation! I’ve never come across them before. Every wedding I’ve been to had a seating plan with name cards at the table. I’ve never known it to cause any problems
