I’m going to chat with our venue, but it makes more sense to me to write their food choices on their cards to eliminate confusion and messed up orders.  The venue will know how many of each dish per table, but what about your aunt from toledo who forgets she ordered chicken and swears it was beef?  Just thought it would be easier

My venue has a form to fill out with each guest’s food choice, so I don’t actually have to write anything on my cards 🙂

Everyone is getting their own place cards, we are doing this so we can indicate their meal choice on the place card for the wait staff. We are having color coordinated crystal dots that match our invitations and the design of the place card to indicate what meal they selected.

Okay so place cards are what are at the table to tell people where to sit and have meal choices on them right? And the escort cards tell people what table they are sitting at? I was just going to do one card per person that tells them what table and have them sit wherever they want at that table… Dinner is different kinds of pasta being served family style so there doesnt need to be any meal indication.. So thats fine right.

As for the question to the original poster I am doing one for each person!! It never occured to me that I could do couples and families!!

@organizedbride11:Doing couples on one card and including “and family” enables you to make fewer cards…yay!  I’m doing this cause I’m cheap! HA!

Place cards are one to a person. They are set up on the tables and tell guests which particular seat to sit in. They can indicate meal choices for the wait staff, as well.

Escort cards are usually located all together on a table as the guests enter the reception venue. They simply tell the guests which table they sit at. The guests pick up these cards, head to their table, and choose their seats from there. 🙂

@chellology:  It’s really up to you how formally or informally you want to write the guests names.  Both are correct.  You can write it as a fromal designation, like invitations are typically addressed:  Mr. and Mrs. William Guest or less formal, William and Judith Guest.  I do believe you should always use their full names though.  When making a card for a couple with different last names, typicaly the woman is listed first.  If someone is bringing a guest and you do not know the guest’s name (make every effort to find out though) you can list it like “Mr. William Doe and Guest.  If the entire family is sitting at the same table and the invitation was addressed to the family then one escort card will do, Mr and Mrs. William Guest and family.  If there’s only one child you could write the child’s name as well, Mr. and Mrs. William Guest and Tiffany.  If the children are adult age, they should get their own escort cards though.

@organizedbride11:  Typically, you make escort cards like you addressed invitations.  If you sent one invitation to a couple, you make one escort card.  Making one per person, just increases the amount of cards your guests have to look through and the amount of space you need to spread them out.  I would highly suggest only making one per couple or family.

@yellowshoe:  One tip on the colored dots.  Make sure the are obviously different in low light.  Usually the lights are dimmed for dinner and the wait staff may have issues differentiating colors.  Another suggestion is putting the different choices in differnt spots on the card.  For example, chicken dot is int he top left corner, beef is in the right and vegetarian is in the middle.
