My fiance and I are sitting in our office calling all of those stragglers and we called my Fiance uncle to get the low down on them… well said uncle’s wife answered the phone and said “oh yeah, we’re coming — there will be 5 of us?”
Fiance and I (very wide eyed looking at each other) “who’s the 5th?”
said uncle’s wife, “my mother… well actually there may only be 4 of us, not sure if said cousin is coming”
Ok then…. Fiance and I couldn’t stop laughing… who does that?? Said uncle is getting a phone call to say no way, no how!!

Yeah, get used to the “what about our +8?” stuff.
You can always sic your mom or Future Mother-In-Law on them and tell them to tell the people in question that space and budget is limited.

My mother would do it in a heart beat… my Future Mother-In-Law, though I like her, is kinda useless for that… but that’s a WHOLE other posting… God Bless Mother-In-Law.

Why didn’t you tell her no when you were already on the phone with her? Just curious if there’s a rationale behind calling back later instead.

@ddw: Probably shock – I know that I just paused a few times, not knowing what to say, then had to go back later to clarify.

exactly what Goldilocks said… you don’t quite know what to say… now had it been me on the phone, I would have told them EXACTLY what I thought of that, but fiance is not quite as quick on his feet and didn’t know what to do!
As an update… when my Fiance called back to say that she wasn’t invited/could come his uncle responded by saying, I don’t see what the big deal is, so she’s coming. This was not acceptable so I spoke to my Future Mother-In-Law and requested that she call… she said that she wouldn’t do it… not comfortable/don’t what to say… so my brilliant mother decided to jump in and make the phone call. The uncle was quite rude to my mom but my mom held it together. Anyway, he called back last night and said that there would only be him coming now!
That totally works for my budget, but such a shame that his wife is so petty.
Anyway, that’s the story! 🙂
