we sent ours as the gifts came in. After the wedding, I was so glad to only have a few thank yous left.

colobride:  If they also give you a gift at your wedding, you send another thank you card. You do not need to send someone a thank you card for simply attending your wedding. The reception in that case is the thank you.

colobride:  PP is right. Thank you notes are for gifts, or if someone helps you with wedding labor (as a favor, non paid). Thank you for coming notes can be seen as fishing for gifts or passive aggressively pointing out the lack thereof. You wining and dining them at the reception is your thank you for their attendance.

colobride:  we only sent post-wedding thank yous to people who brought gifts to the wedding. We didn’t send a thank you just for coming, although I think some bees do that.
