So we are getting married on September 24th 2011 in St.Louis Mo. Problem is I moved to Texas from St.Louis to be with my fiance. Most of my guests live in St.Louis and that’s where a majority of my showers will be…My question is how do I politely spread the word that I would like gifts either shipped directly to my house in Texas or be given gift cards? I know that in some shower invites it posts where the bride is registered…can my Maid/Matron of Honor add to that wording to express what I need? Help!!!

I have heard of gift card showers before, I wonder if you could just have it worded that way? Hopefully, people will think about the fact that you don’t live there anymore and factor that into what they buy too.

You should spread that by word of mouth, but that should be easy since you will be traveling. Also, you might ask whatever stores you are registering with if someone can purchase something and it will be delivered to the store nearest you. I do that alot with my mom, I will send her something from target and she just goes down to the nearest target and picks it up.

That’s a tough spot. I’ve never been to a shower where the gift opening wasn’t the main event. I thought it was sort of the point of a shower. I just asked for no gifts or showers b/c I didn’t know how I would deal with the stuff, but my family hasn’t been too happy with this tactic.

There is nothing I love more than to open gifts…But with flying up there for the shower it will be difficult to bring it all back…and I would hate to have to deal with returning everything and having to rebuy it once I got back to Texas….Wedding gifts won’t be as big of a problem because several friends and family will be driving from Texas and can bring things back for us…

i would only use word of mouth. if you pack very lightly for the trip and bring a big suitcase, you could fit a lot in there and then you just have to pay $25 or whatever for a checked bag.
