I was about to purchase a very reasonably priced tea-length wedding dress from an Etsy shop. But something felt wrong about it. All the Amazon and Etsy shops I looked at for tea-length dresses tended to have the same photo for a dress they were selling. I thought it may have been an issue of taking a photo off the internet, claiming it was their work, and saying they could make that. I had a very weird feeling and didn’t buy it. I’d hate to be $300 out on a dress that is made of cheap fabric, does NOT look like the picture, etc. etc.
BUT- The reviews are mostly all positive (on Etsy at least). Women just gushed about how much they loved the dresses.
I decided to commission the dress from my best friend, an excellent dressmaker with a degree in costuming. But I still really want knee-length chiffon dresses for my bridesmaids. I’d really like to treat my girls (there are only 3 of them) and buy their dresses, so I’d like to keep the cost at $150 or lower. Most of the chiffon dresses I see on Etsy are from China.
Has anyone had experience buying custom dresses from Asia and the South Pacific with positive results? Without the ability to go in for a fitting and some communication complications, I worry that there might be an issue with doing it this way. If any of you have positive experiences, please let me know.

I found a dress on etsy that I loved for my bridesmaids and I had them order. They all ordered within the same month and two came back the same color red, the third was more purple-y red and the 4th was neon red. Same shop and same options selected. The bows on the back were different sizes and the 3rd one, the more purpley colored dress, was satin in the back whereas the first 2 were covered with chiffon. The fourth was the worst because it was neon red and stood out very obviously different and they cheaped out on her dress because she was a bigger size so she only had one layer of tulle whereas the other girls had 4. I would not reccomend. If you do go for it, order them all together on the same transaction and make it clear you want them identical. I ended up buying them all new dresses from david’s becase there was no way to fix the fourth girls dress, especially since the shop closed.

I’ve have bought clothes from eBay sellers in China and they NEVER looked like the photo- always terrible quality, fabric, and poor sewing. Comparing what I recieved with the photos was laughable, don’t do it girl!
