Sometimes waiting just makes the dessert that much sweeter :).

@lucy_smith:  The guy at my doctors office who does my bloodwork a couple times a year asks if my boyfriend has proposed yet, too. Sigh.

We were checking out at Target with SO’s mother when the cashier asked how long we’d been together. When I told her, she literally dropped her jaw and goes, “Well why aren’t you married yet?! Not even engaged? SHEESH! You know we sell rings here… That’s unacceptable!”

It was INSANELY awkward.

I have seen the same doctor for the last 6 years for my annual exam and I get the same question as well! I go in for my annual in about 3 1/2 weeks and I hoping that this time I will have a ring to show when she asks! (I won’t get my hopes too high though).

UGH! I work in a doctors office and there is at least 3 different patients that come in and ask me EVERY time! It is always so bad…

Also we once had a waitress in a resturant come up and tell us congratulations on our wedding… We both just sat there in stunned silence, and finally had to explain that we were not newly weds… hahahaha that poor girl probably felt just as okward!

I get comments all the time – not because of how long we’ve dated, but my age.  I was at the Farmer’s Market and one week, a lady said, “Where’s your engagement ring?  I gotta talk to [SO].”  The next week she said, “No ring?  You’ve got to get moving…in more ways than one!”

My doctor makes comments to me because she knows I’ve been dating someone for almost 3 years.  I see her everything 3 months and she always brings it up.

My chiropractor asks me this a lot to. Granted I see my chiropractor at least once a month.

I remember there was a post on here about the girls gyno asking! Ahh!

I’ve had it from my academic advisor (who has known both of us since before we started dating) and a taxi driver. The driver told me to get out if I don’t have a ring by the 5 year mark (which is next month). My SO was not happy about that, haha.

@lucy_smith:

I haven’t been asked by my doctor or dentist yet thankfully! Also I think my family and friends know how very sensitive I am about that question so they don’t ask either. So grateful or I would probably blow a fuse. But people have asked if my boyfriend is my husband when we’ve been out together because we are older and I just correct them right away that we are boyfriend and girlfriend. He does the same. One of these days I just hope to say, “yes, he is my husband”.

I do dread the question though from doctors and dentists on how is life treating you especially when I’m having a rough waiting day. No one asks directly about marriage, but I think sometimes when they are asking me anything new going on in your life or what have you been up to that they might be really asking, is this woman married yet already??  I still feel like I want to be honest and talk about how I’m frustrated with this waiting game, but I almost always keep it quiet except with close friends and family and act like everything in my life is hunky dorey. I just wish I had some really good/major news regarding marriage before I end up being in my 40s and still single, sigh!

Hehehehe. I think gynos might feel obligated to ask about someone’s sexual relationships, if they are steady/married or not… but I can’t imagine any reason for a dentist to ask that. >.<

@Helium:  Hahaha, maybe it has to go with oral hygiene? 😛
