@FloretteLiz: I have never heard of it.  But I think it’s a fantastic idea.  It’s really what a new couple needs starting out. Sometimes at showers, instead of the fancy $500 bedding – a cook book and a stocked pantry and loaded up fridge would be better.

Heck, even cooking lessons!  From a professional or a relative.

Wow! That’s such a great idea! I’d never heard of it before, but it sounds so good!

You can never have enough cook books and the last thing you want to be thinking about when you’re on your honeymoon is if you are going to have food when you get home.

I have never heard of it.  I also think it is a fantastic idea!  I was recently invited to a bridal shower and within the invite was a blank recipe card that we are supposed to fill out with our favorite recipe and bring to the shower.  It would be great if it was also a “pantry party”.  I love practical gifts.  You can’t get more practical than that!

I’ve never heard of this and can’t really say I’m a fan.  In my opinion gifts, especially for a big occassion like wedding, should be at least somewhat long lasting so that gift will continue to remind the gift receipient of the occassion and of the gift giver.

As the bride, I love the pillows, china, mixer, glassware, etc I recieved at my shower and often think about the people who gave it to me when I use them.  I know that I’ll have these things for a long time and will continue to think fondly about my shower and the gift givers.  But food to fill the pantry is completely momentary and leaves nothing lasting.  I guess I’ll think of the person when I eat the box of pasta they gave me, but then what?

@Meowkers & @FloretteLiz: OP said “goodies” for the kitchen, so I’m assuming that not only means food but also cookbooks, small kitcken utensils, etc. Is that right? I think it’s really cute! 🙂

This sounds fun to me — like a “stock the bar” shower or engagement party. I think it makes the shower presents different from the wedding presents which is always fun.

This is such an awesome idea! I didn’t even have a shower and didn’t really care too, but this would’ve been great! Especially since I didn’t really do alot of cooking (or buying) before marrying Darling Husband…

I would love to have like the recipe card thing BUT also maybe have that person buy the ingredients for that meal… So then you have what you need AND you don’t have to worry about looking in the pantry still clueless as to what to make!

@runsyellowlites: That is a good idea, recipe and ingredients!

I’ve never heard of a pantry party but I think it is a great idea!
