I LOVE fried mozzarella! I tried a recipe I found on allrecipes.com. It seemed so simple, but I must have done something really wrong because mine sucked.

We did!  Can’t remember which recipe right now unfortunately.  It was pretty straight forward and easy.  Rennet seems a little pricey for such a tiny bottle but you only need a couple drops and can make a ton of cheese.

It’s really fun watching it come together.  The recpie we used has a microwave and knead process at the end.  It starts out all grainy and mushy and after a couple times in the microwave it magically just looks and feels “right.”  It is super hot during this part and kindof hard to handle because of it.

It probably took half an hour maybe a touch longer.  If I find the recipe again I’ll post it.

It’s a pretty special day if I make my own pasta sauce (using at least 1 thing from a can in the process).  If anyone wants to make cheese I would be more than willing to taste it though!

Yes! It was great. We just used a standard recipe found online, though I can’t remember exactly where. I’m vegetarian, so I used vegetarian rennet.

The recipe is really simple – just the milk, rennet, and salt, so you have to have excellent-quality milk. Get straight from the dairy or from your local hippie market if you can.

We made a caprese salad with it, with heirloom tomatoes and basil from our garden.

My sister and I made mozarella once. It was super easy, except we went through two or three different milks trying to find one that would work. I live in a hippy-ish, dairy farming community, and I still had trouble finding milk! Just buy the most expensive milk at the natural foods market, it will save you money in end (plus you won’t end up wasting milk).

Where do you buy rennet?  I’m guessing I should be able to find it at the Italian market where we always shop, but in what section?

SO excited to try this.  There’s nothing like fresh mozzarella.  The prepackaged ones just don’t do it for me.

Saw a recipe on pinterest once.. then read the comments on the blog where the recipe originated from, and there was an Italian woman intensely protesting the recipe as it isn’t “real mozarella”, because real mozarella comes from buffalo milk and is not dunked into ice cold water when it is made. However, I’m sure its still good homemade.

Heress the recipe..
