- Wedding: June 2008
(raises hand) that would be me!
Everything that could go wrong with my wedding, went wrong…the day before my wedding!
So we had Friday all planned, I went to have my waxings done early Friday morning, then I was going to get my nails done with my mom at 11. When we made the appointment at the nail salon, I said I wanted a mani pedi and my mom was getting a padi and acrylic nails. They told us it’d take about half an hour for both. So we figured we’d be out of there about 11:45am and to the reception site to decorate right after noon.
yeah…we were at the salon for TWO HOURS!! And they did such an awful job on my nails. When I complained, they offered to redo them, but obviously I didn’t have time to fix them!
So we go to my sister’s to get the rest of the stuff to bring to the reception site for decor and all that, by the time we get to the reception site – it’s at 2pm, our rehearsal is at 5pm. We have under three hours to decorate the entire place.
We get there…and the reception hall wasn’t cleaned out at all! We rented someone’s property – ten acres on a lake – beautiful property, and we were using a building that he used for a church, for our reception. It opened up onto a covered patio for the dance floor…well he didn’t clean out his church. There were pews, the state with sound system, drums, keyboard, random chairs, and a bunch of junk all over! It wasn’t vacuumed, the patio had picnic tables strewn about, the bathrooms were a mess – nothing was done! I was in a state of shock. There was NO WAY that in less than three hours we could clean it all up, move in all the tables, chairs, do all the set up etc. I just broke down in tears! What was I supposed to do?! I called the guy who owned the property, but I suck at stuff like that – so my mom (who was pretty livid) took over for me and confronted him about it.
I guess he was really apologetic, and they did have people lined up to do the cleaning but they didn’t show that week. He talked to his wife and said he and she would work hard all night to try and get it all set up and ready and cleaned out… but by this time we had two hours and I was a mess. I couldn’t deal with it.
So we cancelled. Yup… at 3pm the day before my wedding – we backed out.
We called my sister and asked if we could change the reception site to the fellowship hall in the church (my sister’s husband is the pastor at the church where we were having the ceremony), so she pulled a few strings and was able to get it all approved. So we changed locations last minute.
My Bridesmaid or Best Man called in her family and friends, my then-fiance called in his family, and my whole family – we all teamed together to get the reception set up at quickly as possible.
Well another call from my sister to say that church policy doesn’t allow dancing! (moans sadly). I had poured HOURS into the perfect dance song-list, I was looking forward to it more than anything! oh boy.
well with the help of AMAZING people everything was put together, we got through the rehearsal and the dinner etc etc.
We had some amazing people show up early on the wedding day to pull all the last minute stuff together as well.
All in all, it turned out to be a LOVELY day. The weather was GORGEOUS, and both the ceremony and reception turned out beautifully.
But seriously…all that craziness and stress right before my wedding day – not something I’d wish upon even my worst enemies!
Wanna see some pictures of my lovely day?! My amazing photographer has a few up on her blog 🙂
thanks girls! I couldn’t have made it to my wedding day without my bees support and love 🙂
