the best tip is to put on some milk of magnesia before your primer. It’s amazing. Then I use smashbox photo finish primer or monistat antichafing gel, then kat von d lockit foundation or hourglass immaculate liquid powder foundation (or a mixture of he 2), then Ben nye banana powder. since I started doing this, I NEVER need to blot or re-powder and I NEVER get oily or shiny. I started threads on best foundation and best primer for oily brides a while back- http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/best-foundation-for-oily-bride/#axzz31GYzOQuB

the times I’ve tried setting sprays, they made oil/shine worse, not better.

I have very oily skin (especially now in the summer!) and I really like Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder.  Its dirt cheap, not in the prettiest packaging, but works extremely well.  I’ve also tried NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat powder foundation, also works great.  I generally don’t use foundation, when I do I use CoverGirl 3-in-1, and its amazing.

I’ve been using UD De Slick setting spray, and honestly not been too impressed with it:/

Allyg:  I have a similar skin type as you. I just had a trial done at Sephora. I bought this foundation: http://www.sephora.com/teint-idole-ultra-24h-P308201

It’s a little pricey, but it works wonders! It has just the right amount of coverage and still makes my skin look natural. An it includes some spf.

I also purchased this primer: http://www.sephora.com/ever-matte-poreless-priming-perfector-P378017

I use it only on my T-zone and only when I’ll be wearing foundation. A little bit goes a long way, but it keeps my skin looking matte all day long!

Allyg:  I use Clarins Lotus Oil. It is an oil especially formulated for the face.

Mirenesse (for the powder) are a great Australian brand, but they do ship to other countries!

Benefit’s big-easy is great for oily skin, or if you’re looking for a barely there look, laura mercier’s oil-free tinted moisturizer is awesome too. For powder I like Bobbi Brown’s color-correcting powders.

I don’t wear much make up so I can’t comment on that but what facial cleanser are you using?  I was at MAC once and I told the MUA that my skin felt dry after washing it but would become extremely oily as the day went on.  She said I was using too harsh of a cleanser.  Since then, I’ve switched to a gentle cleanser (Cere Ve) and my face is not nearly as oily as it used to be.  My face was producing more oil in order to compensate for the stripping of the natural oils with the harsher cleanser!  If this is the case for you, you might have more options for foundations with a less oily face.

IzzyBear:  agree! I have tried many many many foundations. The EL double wear is the best!

Kat Von D’a foundation is full coverage and matte. It’s too matte for my dry skin. Also, MUFE has a matte foundation. Like another bee suggested milk of magnesia is great to pu. On before foundation to help with the oiliness. Ben NYE has a setting spray which is also mattifying called Final Seal.

Another vote for Estee Lauder Double Wear. About the only foundation that really covers and lasts ALLLLL day on my oily skin. For powder I use Coty Airspun loose powder.

I have developed oily skin as an adult, which is a total 180 from my teenage skin (SUPER dry). It took some getting used to, but I think I’ve got it managed now.

Some foundations I use regularly that are great for oily skin:

  • Estee Lauder Doubewear Light
  • Revlon Colorstay for Oily skin
  • CoverGirl Outlast (just started using this one recently and I LOVE it!)

Concealers I like for blemishes:

  • Bobbi Brown stick concealer
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay stick concealer

My all time favorite powder is MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural. I have been using this one everyday for about five years.

I haven’t found a primer I love yet, though I have tried MANY different kinds. Instead, I prefer to moisturize my skin with an oil free lotion with SPF, then after that I lightly brush on some translucent powder (I use the one from Laura Mercier) on my T-Zone. THEN I start applying my makeup. The translucent powder as a base really helps to keep me not appear oily, but also not super matte.

Another product I LOVE is Skindinavia Setting Spray for Oily Skin.

One of the BEST tricks I do before I know I need to get ready for a special occasion is that I use the St. Helene Mint Julep mask RIGHT BEFORE applying my makeup. Leave it on for 10 mins, wash it off and start applying your makeup.

Another tip I learned is that you can use a silica setting powder (like MUFE) UNDER your foundation. It conceals pores and is a good base for makeup.

The makeup I used for my wedding day was Revlon PhotoReady WHIPPED foundation. No white cast and great staying power. Set with MAC powder. The most important thing is your base and foundation and you dont’ want to put too much on your face.

Setting spray is also key. Use Urbban Decay (either deslick or all nighter, pretty much the same product) after you put on your liquid foundation AND after you finished your whole face.

Good luck!

I have crazy oily skin added to that I’m outside most of the day at work so here’s my top 2 items.

moisturizer- Neutrogena for combination skin. It works. It really does calm the oil down A LOT. I was constantly greasy so moisture seemed redundant but only this lotion has improved my skin and I’m no longer glistening.

foundation- Loreal True Match Mineral Powder foundation. Powder anything is great with my oily skin because over time it looks better and it looks natural.

I’m also experimenting with BB Cream but so far it only works well if I use the above mentioned lotion under. Otherwise it melts off and I’m soggy all over again.
