It’s customary to bring food to your comprehensive exam defense at my university. I need to figure out what to bring and I’m terrible at this sort of thing. I have a few constraints…
1. I live an hour and half from the defense location.
2. I have to provide enough *snacks* for 6 people.
3. The defense is right after lunch.
4. It’s freezing outside and I have to carry what I bring about 5 blocks.

When you said snacks, I automatically thought of homemade cereal bars! lol They’re super easy; here’s a link if you want to take a look. I always make them the night before, then cut them into squares and throw them into a bowl to take places.
Hope this helped!

sorry to sound like an idiot, but what is an exam defense??

@MrsNerdy: You don’t sound like an idiot! For a PhD and sometimes a Masters, you write for several hours on questions for a final exam. After you write, you have to “defend” your answers in front of your committee (professors).

@aliavenue: If it’s right after lunch, I doubt that anyone would want anything substantial. Many people are also trying to be “good” before the temptations of the holiday season.
I would bring a lovely tray of fruit with a yogurt dip.

@aliavenue: ohhh okay! I’ve heard of defending your thesis, so I guess its along those same lines.
Well I don’t really have many suggestions (other than maybe some kind of dessert? Cake pops? Brownies?), but good luck!!!

Cheese and fruit is always good! Good luck with your defense.
