Wow. I can’t believe no one has commented…

I haven’t stayed at these but I can offer you info on Secrets/Dreams properties in the CanCun area and Excellence resorts. We are actually considering this area for our Honeymoon because we loved Secrets in CanCun so much!

We stayed at Secrets the Vine last September and LOVED it. We were so impressed with the facility and staff…the whole Secrets/Dreams/Amresorts brand. We met a couple on their way to Maroma beach and they were stoked. The staff in the spa suggested Maroma Beach…they said it’s very private and nice…perfect for Honeymoon. Secrets are all adults only. We were there for my bday and they but a banner on our door and brought me a special dessert/cake as a surprise. The whole resort was clean and really nice. Truly AI…never needed money unless we were off property.

My Maid/Matron of Honor went to Excellence Playa Mujeres and loved it. They loved it so much they returned 5 years later, last year, and had another great time. This is a heavy consideration for us, too. We don’t feel we will be disappointed with either.

Water in CanCun is beautiful, so long as you stay on the Carribean side. Secret/Dreams resorts have a VIP club that is absolutely worth the extra cost. VIP’s have their own pools and areas. We will always go VIP for any Secrets resorts we go to from now on.

Food at Secrets was great. There was one place that was overbooked for dinner and that disappointed us but had we known it was a hotspot we would have arrived earlier. We are both food lovers and I’m extremely picky. We were both pleased and well-fed. I have been to AI resort in the Bahamas and I was sorely disappointed. This was not the case. You have to remember though, that it isn’t American food. Like their standards are different. Not lower…just different. So they may not master a burger but they will have 7 different kinds of delicious, fresh fruit juice. Or the pasta may be good but the fish tacos will knock you sideways. Just remember this when you go…you are paying for the food but in another country and to keep your expectations realistic.

At this point, I think you should pick the place that you like the look of, because I don’t feel either will be a mistake. Have so much fun!!!

@bellasposada:  I stayed at excellence Riveria Maya a few years ago for a girls trip and LOVEd It. I’ve never stayed at secrets though so I can’t give a comparison.

     1. Service & Facilities (which resort was the cleanest and most accomodating to your requests)

I thought they were every accommodating. It was my girlfriends birthday and thson added some special touches like a dessert in the room, a bubble bath and balloons. All requests  were handled quickly, we never had a problem with getting seated for lunch or dinner, for room was clean and well stocked ALL work staff was most pleasant.

    2. Beach (is it clear, blue). It was not clear when we were there. Definitely seaweed in the water. So though it was pretty and blue I didn’t want to get in it. Spent most of the time in the lazy Susan just floating around the resort having drinks brought to us.

    3. Food (fellow foodies, which one?) I’m not a foodie , actually I’m a very picky water, but I was pleased with the dining options.

    4. Atmosphere (did you feel like either was too large of a resort/crowded? which one is the best mix of relaxing and lively). It was a large resort but never seemed crowded. We liked that it was adult only. Definitely couple oriented. It was a lovely resort and the atmosphere was always friendly and pleasant.

    5. Proximity to/Options for Excursions (like Tulum, etc). We did not leave the resort but I think we were close to eveything and not too far from the airport.

    6. Value (overall, if they were both identically priced, which one do you think you got more bang for the buck from) We thought it was a great deal don’t remember off hand the total but I think it was worth everypenny. It was truly all inclusive, i Didn’t spend a done while I was there except for a few souvenirs

Feel free to Message me if you have any other questions.

Went to Secrets Maroma two years ago for my parents 25th. It was totally amazing because of that stay we are going to Secrets St James in Jamaica for our honeymoon. They treated our group like gold, we were so impressed with the food and the rooms were amazing. Awesome beach, I don’t know if you can afford it but if you are going to Mayan Riviera, my Maid/Matron of Honor stayed at the Iberostar Grand and she never stopped raving about it. I think it is more money thanSecrets Maroma though. I would go back in a heartbeat but I’ve always wanted to go to Jamaica and try some place different.
