We went to EPM for our honeymoon for 8 nights and loved it.  We thought the food was excellent for an all-inclusive, and we enjoyed having lots of restaurant options and good variety at each.  But then, we don’t have high expectations of AI food.

We knew we wouldn’t spend much time in the room, so we decided to go with a regular oceanview room, but upgraded to the Excellence Club category.  For us, this was a huge benefit.  I was able to stop into the EC lounge every day to check my email and grab appetizers and a drink.  We also thought the EC beach was better than the regular side – upgraded loungers, guaranteed palapa, great bar service.  We never used the EC pool, though it was right outside our door, because the main pool is so wonderful.  We did a circuit around the lazy river at least once a day, and spent every afternoon at the swim-up bar with David and Jonathan, our favorite bartenders.

The evenings were very quiet.  There are a few shows, but we would usually grab a drink at the martini bar and head to bed by 10 or 11.  We’re early birds on vacation though. 🙂

There are a few activities included, but I can’t really speak to them or any of the watersports because I spent the entire vacation either on the beach reading or in the water.

We had a candlelit dinner on the beach the first full day we were there, and it was beautiful.  I think it was part of the honeymoon package.  Definitely take advantage of that!  We also did the couples massage that was included in the package – it was just okay, but we did the aquatherapy circuit afterwards and it was really cool.

We took an amazing private day trip to Chichen Itza and Ek-Balam (details here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/going-to-cancun-in-22-days-any-suggestions#axzz2XL6b2qIh).  I highly recommend using Flavio if you’d like to get off the resort for a day.  He’ll customize a tour for you.

We’ve been on 6 or 7 AI vacations and EPM was the one we liked the most.  And I don’t think it was just the honeymoon glow either.!  We’re planning to go back in a couple years, after we visit some other places on our pre-kids to-do list. 🙂

@soontobeMrsBoo:  I haven’t done this myself, but one of my best friends stayed at one of the Excellence resorts (Playa Mujeres, if I’m not mistaken) and she couldn’t say enough good things about it.  She went with her husband on their honeymoon and they never wanted to come home, lol.

I would also recommend Excellence Playa Mujeres. It’s a beautiful resort.
