There is a venue in particular where I would love to have my wedding. With the current budget, it would be a bit of a stretch and the reception/food/drink costs would be about 2/3rds of the budget. I am looking for advice in how to negotiate.
Specifically, this venue has a somewhat mediocre website. My Fiance is a software engineer and has some experience making websites (in his current work project he is working on a website that uses flash). I had considered seeing if this location would be willing to trade web design services for a reduction in site fees. We’re out of state and will be looking at the place in person at the end of the month. Any advice on if this would even work? How much is a new web design worth? How would I bring this up?

@PinkBubbleGum: MY SO is a web developer/graphic designer. We are starting the quest to barter services. Websites are pricey because of the hours of coding and design work. My SO charges $1200 just to do a professional custom blog design for someone because of the coding that goes into it.
Right now we are bartering with art school graduates. He is doing a simple website for a photographer starting out and she is going to do our engagement photos for free. So even if they don’t turn out great, it’s not like we paid money. She gave us a service in exchange for another service.
We are in talks right now with doing this with a DOC who is about to branch out on her own in a year. She needs business card designs and doesn’t want to get a vista template.
The first thing you should do is not insult their website. Some people put a lot of time into them and they think it’s fine. You will turn them off by saying you think they need a new webpage.
We usually just start off by saying that we are in the design business and would like to know if they would offer a discount or swap for web design services.
