Wow I was totally on team “2+ carats” til I saw it on your hand. It really truly looks perfect on your hand. Just the right size. Maybe that’s because it was chose with LOVE! 🙂 He did good, hope you fall in love with it!

Carat size is NOT the only factor going into a price of a diamond. You never know – maybe your Fiance upgraded to higher color, quality, and cut. All of these make a huge difference in a diamond (and price). When you compare a diamond that is higher quality to one that is a lower quality, you’ll notice a big difference. Maybe he thought it would be a higher priority to have quality over size.

I think your ring is beautiful. I wouldn’t worry about what anybody says to you. I know in my area 1 carrat is standard, and anything bigger is “flashy”.
I was also disappointed with mine (0.25 carrat!) but it’s an heirloom ring that was his grandma’s so I can’t ask for an upgrade 🙁 I just picked out a really sparlky wedding band to put beside it. It makes a huge difference.

just to second KLP and ejs, I was quite surprised at stone sizes of all you lovely ladies rings on here. In the UK anything past .5 of a carat is fairly big, it’s not often you see 1ct solitaires on ladies fingers, never mind being haloed or trilogied. Something I’ve not seen on here but see frequently in chain jewellers here; they put 9 tiny diamonds together, or 4 mini ones together to make one square looking diamond. So it looks like a bigger effect, personally I see it as ‘cheating’, but it gets a similar effect for half the price…
I’m expecting my ring to be between 0.5 and 1 ct and it’s more likely than not going to be a solitaire and worn with a simple plain band. Anything bigger would attract attention.
What I’m saying not so eloquently is, it looks lovely and the proportions of the size suit your hand, and going overseas they won’t look at your hand and think ‘is that it?’ they’d think ‘woah!’

If my fiance went by what Debeers says you should spend on an engagement ring I would be weighed down! I always thought .5 and up was perfectly good (not dissing anyone with one smaller). My hands are small so my ring looks just right even if it is less than a carat, sure next to a honker I may have stone envy but that rarely happens. To be honest if you look at a stone under 1 versus one over a carat can you really tell the difference? And I agree with others who commented that it is a symbol.

That’s a beautiful stone. I think I see what you’re saying… it seems to me that the diamond would look much larger if the band were very thin. That’s the thing with diamonds… you can always have it re-set later! 🙂

I think your ring is beautiful. Round center stones always look larger to me anyhow. My ring is princess cut 1.49 center, total of 2.49 with the side stones. The princess cut does look smaller to me, I think your ring looks larger than mine. I really like your ring a lot and it looks amazing on your finger. I would be very, very pleased with it. I now wish I had a round center rather than princess. I think we always want what we don’t have ~ lol. Anyhow your ring is fantastic, be proud of it, and congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi-I very knew to this site, just wanted to say the same as most on here. Your ring is beautiful! 1.3 caret is a fabulous size, if you were expecting more I know it’s a let down a little, but you are still a bride with a fabulous size diamond! =) I have a 1.12 caret and I love it! Is it the biggest diamond out there..well no! lol but I love it and will have it forever! =) I know a lot of girls that didn’t even get 1 caret! so they think my diamond is a rock! lol. so don’t worry about what other people think as long as you love it!
As for the platinum, I did get platinum, because i told him that is what i wanted (and picked it out..he he) There are some posts on here saying that platinum is soft. Which is incorrect, platinum is much harder than gold & heavier. I love the way my platinum ring feels on my hand, but not everyone likes that feeling. My platinum ring has stayed shiny since i have been engaged and my friend who got engaged 2 weeks before me has had to have her white gold dipped already. I just didn’t want to ever have to worry about that. Yes platinum will patina, but you can just have it polished and it will be shiny again. Both are beautiful metals and make a diamond look wonderful…but there can be more maintenance with white gold. =( If he had bought me white gold, I would have been happy just to have him asking me and would not have ever thought different! =)
So LOVE your ring girl! Don’t worry about the small details..

Hi there! I browsed through the comments, and I think I saw one that suggested the halo setting for your wedding band. Can I just say how much I love the halo setting? I didn’t realize it until I came to this board. I do love my ring, but the halo setting just looks magical to me…and I think it makes any center stone look huge!
As for the obnoxious comments you’re getting from other people (i.e. “oh…it’s so…cute!”) Don’t let on that what they’re saying bothers you. Even though you are visualizing punching them in the face for the comment, smile genuinely and say, “Yes…it’s perfect, I love it!” If they continue on with more obnoxious comments, just let them know that it truly means the world to you that your Fiance picked this ring out on his own and is a great symbol of how much he loves you. People can’t argue with that.
Oh, and your ring is gorgeous by the way!!!

I am failry tall, but I have tiny size 5 fingers, and even 1 ct. looked ginormous on my fingers. I tried on a 1.5 carat at Tiffany’s and it looked like a small bowling ball. I think your ring looks great on your hand.

Also, can some other midwestern girls agree with me that our rings out here are tiny compared to the coasties? I never seen ginormous diamonds around, maybe Minnesotans are just too modest. Haha.. or cheap.
