I think that yes, it’s a little pricey, but the bride has enough to worry about financially without paying for everyone’s dress. If you can’t afford it, apologize and step down.

Ouch, $300.  That is alot of money to be asked to shell out for just the dress.

You could ask if you can find a cheaper alternative that looks similar at, say, David’s Bridal or something, too.

It is a little pricey, but it really depends on the type of wedding, the life situations and age of the bride and bridesmaids, the dress’ wearability after the wedding.

I had very young BMs most of whom were still students, and all under 25 so my dresses were about $140

I sympathize, but you did say you would buy it/wear it. weddings are expensive occasions!

Wow that’s a lot of $$ for a dress that you’ll likely only wear once.  I did not want to put my BMs through that, so we ended up with one for $85 at Nordstrom.  Do you know what the dress looks like?  Maybe you can look for something similar for less money.  Or post a pic here and we can try to help you!  🙂

I had a very difficult time finding dresses all my girls liked, when I finally did find something everyone agreed on they ended up being $300 dresses.  Two of my bridesmaids could easily afford it and had no problem with the request.  The other two, I split the cost with them and told them I would not be giving them the traditional “bridemaid gift” that is generally given to each bridesmaid.

Everyone thought that it was a reasonable solution and are happy with the dress choices.

OMG i had to pay $250 for a bridesmaid dress and I was an unemployed student.  The wedding budget was $5,000.  I was not happy but I went in with the attitude that this is a special day and I will do anything.  Of course back then I thought all bm dresses were $200+.  It was my first time. My bridesmaid dresses for my girls are going to be under $100.  Probably about $70 and full length.  And they dont have to buy shoes or pay to get their hair done.

I would like my Bridesmaid or Best Man to wear $200 dresses but I know it will be finacially difficult for one of my bm so Im not going to get those.

You already agreed to pay for it.  She must have asked you and gave you a chance to say that was alright.  I asked my bm if $100 was too much for her and she said no that was fine.

Its expensive, but its what i would expect to pay if i was in a wedding.  however, it should be in relation to how much the bridal party can afford to spend and the lifestyles of the brides friends and where they are in life…
