I wonder how much Slyvia Weinstock charges? I love love love that woman!

It does sound very expensive for a small cake, but everything in HI is more expensive!

and I just looked up Sylvia Weinstock cakes – apparently they *start* at $10 per slice.  (I’m sure they go way way up from there)… but still…

oh man, I thought mine was expensive at 4.50/slice… but it is so worth it. I don’t think I would even consider paying $20/slice that is a bit much. If you keep looking I bet you’ll find a baker that will give you what you want for a more reasonable price!

Find another baker! I’m kind of biased as we’re not even having a wedding cake (I think they’re all pretty much overpriced) but that’s so expensive!

Oh my, that’s really expensive. When we were looking for a baker, we were finding the average cake to be $4.50-$7 per slice ($4 for a really simple design and $7 for a really intricate design). We ended up with $4.50 because we wanted a simple cake.

Do you have a set budget for yourself?  If not and you have the means to and you really want to – you should go for it!

But if you’re going budget and think that you can spend that money towards something else that’s more worth it, it’s very very expensive.  I honestly think the food is more important than the cake!

I think the price is really high, I thought most places were anywhere from $4-$8 per slice on average.  Anything you can do to get the cost down or maybe find another bakery who can do something similiar but less expensive?

That does seem quite high, although I didn’t do a lot of cake research, as we had a family friend/pastry chef make ours.  I had friends who paid around $5k for their cake (175 guests), but they were real foodies and insisted on this particular bakery for their cake.  For my part, and I LOVE cake, I don’t think it’s a place I’d spend all that extra money on.

That is too much.  I’d love to see what these cakes look like for $20 a slice.

Yikes! Yeah, that is expensive. My friends had a $500 cake, but it had to feed about 400 people, so $800 for 40? Yeah, a bit ridiculous.

Yeah, I’d love to see an example of what a cake this expensive looks like, too! Can you link to the bakery or to some examples of their products?
