No. Secular officiants run from $100-200. I don’t know what rabbis go for, but Catholic priests do it for free if you’re in their congregation (most people leave a donation anyway) and will charge a few hundred if they approve you outside the congregation.
Mare you sure this is just for officiating? Like maybe this is the price for an all inclusive at the synagogue?

DO NOT pay that. You are getting scammed. I have not heard of an officiant being more than $500. I wouldn’t fee l bad telling her that either.

That’s insane! Team Brother 🙂

Ours was a higher than usual cost of about $350/$400 but adding another zero is insane!!!!! That’s literal ripoff.

Thumbtack is awesome. We got an experienced officiant for $150.00, which includes rehearsal and constant contact. Bonus: He has a British accent! 🙂

Wow that is totally expensive and I thought the local celebrant I was looking at was to expensive. The one I was looking at wanted $900 plus $80 for rehearsal ceremony and extra if they had to bring props aka table and chairs.
I thought it was because they knew how to help us fill out legal forms and prepare for the ceremony. I shopped around and found a celebrant who was two hours away that was so much cheaper.
You need to look around for other options in celebrants or officiants. I find it interesting most don’t put their prices on their sites and you have to call or message them directly. The expensive celebrant would not tell me the price directly when I messaged them. They sent me a long email.

Hell no. I paid $750 for my church wedding-but technically that includes the stole fees, payment of the priest and deacon, and the payment for the cantor and organist (which was $250 each), so basically the fee for the priest and deacon was $200 total

We had a family member marry us and he did an awesome job. He paid $35 to get a one day ordainment from the state and wouldn’t even let us reimburse him for that. We bought him an expense bottle of scotch as a gift and that’s all it cost us!

Unless this officiant is Moses in the flesh, there is no way I’d pay that amount. The most I’ve heard is $500 in a major city.

woah!!! All the quotes I got were $500 and I was grumbling at the cost. Hellll no.
Let your brother get ordained. That’s insane.

could it have been a typo? meaning to say 400 or 500?
our rabbi was $300. or maybe $500. my mom wrote the check, i can’t remember.
but $4500 is ridiculous. i would have your FI’s family talk to him, but if that’s what he charges a friend, i can’t imagine what he would charge other people.

This has to be a mistake.
