I’m almost embarassed to admit how much we’re paying!! It was definitely NOT what I expected to shell out for photos. For the wedding day + free engagement session and wedding album, the grand total was about $7000. If we had skipped the album it would have been about $4500 instead.

Initially, after finding out her prices I was so shocked that I went on a massive search to find someone else that was comparable but affordable. Every time I thought I was ready to make a decision, I went back to looking at her portfolio/blog and fell in love all over again. My Fiance finally told me to just book her. He knew that we wouldn’t be happy with anyone else and I needed to take the plunge and pay the deposit. Photos are EXTREMELY important to me so I think it was worth the cost. Thankfully our guest list is under 70 and our meals were only $11 per person. Otherwise I don’t think we would have been able to book her!

@Saraswati:  Please tell me you booked Jasmine Star for that kind of money ๐Ÿ™‚  I can’t believe how expensive California is… However, I did almost book a photographer for $4,500, but switched at the last minute to someone who is around $3,000.  The first photographer was phenomenal, but the photographer I am using now is still very good and I am saving $1,500!  I couldn’t pass it up!

Photography was the #1 most important thing to me. After the day is over, what you have left are the pictures to remember it by. We budgeted up to $3000 (out of our $12500 budget) for photography because of that.

We got really lucky though and a good friend of my Fiance offered to do it for just $1300 and he is REALLY talented and normally does charge $3000. We wanted to make sure he is really happy though and we actually thought he was offering to do it for too little considering his talent, so we offered him $1800 plus his hotel room and gas since our wedding is 6 hours away. Included in our package is 2 photographers, engagement photos, getting ready and morning of photos, ceremony photos and photos well into the reception and full rights to use all the photos as we please. I think that’s a steal considering how good this guy is.

This is our guy! We actually got our engagement photos taken yesterday and I am so excited to see them! ๐Ÿ™‚

I think booking the photograher you love and you think will do the best job is very important. The extra money is certainly worth the peace of mind and the excellent memories.

๐Ÿ™ I’m scared. We’re paying $450 to have a friend do it… He’s good, but I’m so picky. I wish we’d had it in our budget, but we just couldn’t do it and still have food that day -_-

Why do we have to feed our guests, again?

@sdb1232: Jasmine is pretty darn good, but we went with Stephanie Williams ๐Ÿ™‚ I believe she recently partnered with her husband, so they’re now known as This Modern Romance.

California is absolutely RIDONKULOUS when it comes to wedding costs (or anything really for that matter!) But our photographer was the biggest part of our budget, so we tried to find deals and cut costs when possible.

We nearly doubled our budget on the photography and got Christian Oth Studios, though we did get a nice incentive through the planner we hired. It’s one thing we both refused to settle for less on. We gave up videography to make it work.

We booked arguably the best photographer in our area.  We are spending over $5000 on photography, and IMO it’s the best decision we made.  Photography, to me, is an investment. Our engagement photos came out wayyyyyyy better than I was expecting.  Therefore, if it’s in your budget, go for it!
