That’s a lovely gesture of get. If you think it’s a little out of character i might ask what was the change if heart, to be sure its not something she’s going to regret.

Youre right that it might be difficult to adjust a dress several sizes up but i couldn’t imagine what parts you were planning to use and how.

I used my grandmas dress- it was stressful and hard but worth it for the beauty of the dress (which I already loved) and the sentiment.  I also was sizing her dress down a bit which was easier- I don’t know that you would be able to go up on a dress. You could bring it to a seamstress and see what suggestions they have for how to use it. However, keep in mind its still fairly expensive to redo an entire dress (I spent 700 and had a family friend working on it) and much more stressful with all the fittings and lots of decisions to make- we made multiple trips to NYC and lots of searching online to find all the embellishments and fabric we wanted to add (btw if youre adding lace or any other kind of nice wedding fabric its super expensive, we only added a layer of colored chiffon underneath the skirt so fabric cost wasnt bad). Theres also the constant worry that its not coming out right or wont come out right. BUT if you love her dress and can see a way that you want to use parts of it- take it to an excellent seamstress and see what they suggest. You also have to have a vison! If you could post a pic we could help with suggestions on how to change/use it!
