Hi all!! Do any of you bees have experience with Upwork??? I work a 9 to 5 job, but would love earning a little extra cash on the side (and having a little larger savings account!). Let me know your experiences and any tips 😊

I thought they did only IT work. If so, Have you tried Work Market or Field Nation?

I’ve been using Upwork for about a few weeks now for freelance editing and writing work while I search for a full time job in the new city I just moved to. At first Upwork was pretty frustrating – I was bidding for tons of jobs but getting no bites, even though I have lots of professional experience. The problem was that I had no experience on Upwork…no rating on there and no reviews, so no clients who actually paid decent fees were willing to hire me.
So I stooped to new lows and took some extremely low paying jobs on there (like writing a 1000 word article on “best essential oils” for $6). I felt pathetic doing that, but it paid off, because those clients gave me good reviews and high ratings, which helped beef up my Upwork profile. Since getting those positive reviews, I have landed a few pretty decently paying editing jobs and am actually pretty busy with work.
TLDR: my Upwork strategy was to take 2-3 shitty low paying jobs, do an awesome job on them and get some good ratings, and then bid for more reasonable paying jobs.

I have found upwork to be a lot of work. Many times you apply with a huge amount of other people. Sometimes when there are that many people applying its just not worth it for me.
