Some advice from you would be really appreciated. We have just started ttc, and I had my Mirena implant out two months ago. First cycle came and went and I am on my second one now. My gyno asked me to come in for a post-removal checkup, and said she didn’t think I was pregnant yet, but that everything looked fine. She thought ovulation had been quite late this cycle and that there was hardly any buildup yet, but nothing to worry about. I’m on day 34 of my cycle now, no period yet, and wondering if she may have been wrong or if this is just my body still recalibrating? Now, we have not been super-active in the bedroom, and I know it’s really early days yet, but should I be worried? What are your experiences after having the Mirena removed?

I had a bad experience with Mirena. Every side effect, I had. I couldn’t wait to get it removed!!!!! My periods actuallly got worse after having it removed, they got heavier and last at least 8-10 days. but come every 30 days on the dot. I’ve always been a 30 day cycle. It’s been about 6 months since I had it out.

Hey! I had the Mirena for a few years and had it removed about a year before TTCd. We got pregnant after 4 months of TTCing, so it didn’t cause any probs. I have always had nightlmarish irregular periods and long cycles so I can’t comment on it’s effects on that.

I had mine out in may and we aren’t doing the TTC thing but for the first couple of months my cycle was all out of whack. It’s very normal while your body adjusts and goes back to normal.
I’m still trying to work on the rest of the issues as a result of having it removed. I lost SOOO much energy when it got taken out and have gained 30 pounds since.

Oh wow, thank you for all your supportive responses. I am so relieved that it’s all normal and nothing to worry about!
pinkgreenandyellow: I have been feeling rubbish too since having it removed, soooo tired all the time (one day I slept 16 hours out of 24) and drained. I have been losing weight I think, a nice contrast to the extreme gain when I had it put in (about 40 pounds over a year 1/2). I don’t want to go on BC ever again – it messes with your body and moods.

I have Mirena (love it!) and my doctor said fertility returns to baseline immediately after removal. Baseline = whatever your normal is.

posting to check this later
Ee’ll be TTC after the honeymoon, my obgyn said don’t take it out before hand because there is the possibility of getting pregnant right away and I’m not into that while I’m travelling.
