Hi Bee! I have the knife edge platinum six prong solitaire set with a 2.38 ideal cut H VS1 round brilliant lab diamond and the matching platinum pave knife edge band- all purchased at once from Vrai.
please know that this review isn’t necessarily negative but was my experience. I did the virtual appointment- it was helpful but the rings they show on the video chat are cz center stones. My reps name was Danny and he was very helpful and nice. Maybe a month or so went buy and I found the above mentioned diamond in their inventory- it hit the pricescope suggestions for ratios for an ideal cut diamond.. 1.2 on the HCA tool.. I ordered easily, I love one stop shopping honestly. Which is one reason that drew me to Vrai. All in all I paid $8100 which for a mined stone with those stats I would have paid triple that just for a mined diamond. So the value is definitely there.
they do use recycled metals.. but my recycled platinum rings are sturdy and heavy. The fit was spot on and true to size. The claw prongs and thin knife edge and flush sit of the wedding band are exactly what I wanted in a wedding set.
Rings arrived within the time frame.. packaging is beautiful. Upon first opening the main ring and diamond blew me away. But after wearing it around a couple of days I noticed a brown tint to the stone in certain lightings. Not really ‘warmth’ but like.. just.. brown. I’m not overly sensitive to color but the brown tint in this just isn’t flattering in my opinion. I’m sure the platinum setting doesn’t help mask the color but an H color ideal cut stone should hide quite a bit of color.
I contacted Alicia at Vrai who is their CSR manager I think.. I sent her pictures, she admitted she saw the tint, and asked what I’d like to do. I chose to keep the rings and she had Danny gather my stone requirements to find me at diamond with no tint. 90 day return period for the ring so I knew I had some time. At first my specs were specific. Then a month went by and they couldn’t find me anything. So I dropped my specs and upped the price I was willing to pay by about 25%. Another two months went by and still they could not find me one round brilliant diamond without a brown tint above 2 carats. Alicia encouraged me to return the ring if I wasn’t happy. The thing is I waited so long for this perfect set and I just cannot let it go so I decided to live with the diamond. And that was totally my choice. They would have refunded me all the way up to that 90 day mark.
I know lab diamonds have tint sometimes- and I truly stared at the video forever before buying and truly thought I had gotten one without a tint. As a consumer I feel they should disclose that information regarding tint upfront. I’m disappointed that a large retailer who sources through Diamond Foundry couldnt in 90 days find me a round brilliant above 2cts with no tint.
I had to continually check up to see if they found anything. Although I guess I shouldn’t have expected a ‘still nothing!’ email from them.
a couple of things happened that now make me question things.
1. when I discussed returning the ring Alicia told me after I’d been wearing the ring in all lighting conditions, that if there were any signs of wear they couldn’t take it back. I brought up the fact that since they refuse to sell settings separately and they’re using recycled metals -wouldn’t they just be remelting my setting ? (since she told me they’re all made for the specific diamond you chose and cannot have another stone put in- would have to buy all new setting).. she then agreed to take it back regardless of wear and I agreed to wait out the 90 days for a new stone with no tint. I mean common sense- if you’re telling me I can’t keep the setting and you can’t take it back if it’s worn, but you boast recycled metals- ummmmm.. you should then be able to take it back without issue.
2. I posted two reviews. One under the setting and one under the wedding band. Neither of them made it to their website. The review wasn’t awful or nasty. Just truthful. I complimented them on many things but ultimately disclosed the brown tint in the diamond. I find it odd that those reviews never made it to their website. It seems deliberate to me as I posted the first a month ago and the second a week ago. Plenty of people have reviewed the products and had them posted, but mine is not there. I have the wedding band five stars. I have the ring three stars and a truthful review.
I’m past the return period, which was 100% my choice. I still hate the tint and the stone doesn’t have the light return expected from its stats.. I have to keep it clean every day to keep it bright. Otherwise it’s a bit dull. Other times it’s beautiful and I can’t stop staring.
I find it hard to return something that I waited so long to be able to get. It’s just me. I know it’s stupid. I should have sent it back. But honestly the other one stop shop places like JA, BE, WC, 1215, etc.. were more expensive and still source many of their stones from Diamond Foundry. So I just didn’t want to go through the headache again of looking and searching etc.. I spent months and months researching. So I settled ultimately. But by choice. Here are a million pictures.
