if one (or both) of the people getting married are Star Wars fans, it’s an easy way to incorporate that.

Other than that, I have nothing – I don’t exactly get it myself.

(my BM’s fiance is REALLY into star wars. If she let him, there’d be stormtroopers at her wedding. Thankfully she put the kabosh on THAT idea. Whew.)

I think another reason, besides the obvious fondness for Star Wars, is that Stormtroopers coordinate better with the wedding, since they’re white and black.  Matches the bride and groom much better than other characters 🙂

LMAO….this is right up my alley! its the love of star wars that does it!

My FH is in love with star wars….and I embrace it! Its something I love about him!

I am going to be going the wacker star wars lover club for outragious weddings.

My brother is going to be marrying us and he will be dressed as Darth Vader! He will actually enter in to the Theme sound to star wars….and my bridal party will walk down to that too!

The best part is the FH doesnt have a clue. He is going to be so nervious that day that I thought it would just take him off gaurd and make him forget his nerves and smile!

I think the entire wedding guest will be surprised! I super excited…and honestly I dont care who doesnt like it or thinks it stupid! Its what I wanted to do for my FH!

EDIT NOTE: The grooms cake is star wars theme too!

Also, the costumes are a lot less of a pain in the butt than the ones with elaborate make-up or hairstyles.

I wanted to wear a stormtrooper helmet as my veil, but my fiance said no very firmly. He also said no to having a half-Star Wars, half-Star Trek wedding, even though it would have been SO AWESOME.

He said he wants to keep it “classy.” I’m like, what, a red minidress isn’t classy?

@d_mari3: Ohhhhhhhhhmygod I totally cannot let my boy read your post because ever since the day we got engaged, it has been a running joke in our entire family that we will elope in Vegas and have Darth Vader marry us. You are SO AWESOME.

Anyway, as a HUGE Star Wars fan, I obviously see nothing wrong with having Stormtroopers at a wedding. It’s humorous and incorporates part of the bride/groom’s personality. Unless Great Aunt Mildred has an irrational fear of Stormtroopers, I don’t see why anyone would make a big deal about it.

If I had more balls and was actually trying to work some of my g33kdom into our wedding, I would totally love to have Stormtroopers, Ewoks, and Chewbacca. Truth.

roffffffle, “Stormtrooper helmet as my veil” HAHAHHAHAHAHAA <3

@maraschino I get butterflys in my stomach everytime I think of it….the butterflys are like when I started dating the FH…….I am super excited about it. I cant stop smiling cus I know he is going to LOVE it. I just know its the right thing for our wedding!

Plus it is going to really burn my grandmother who is already pissed that we are not being married by someone who is offilated with a church! I cant wait to see how she reacts…its going to be priceless!

Nothing sexier then the bad boys…yes they are the bad guys….but bad guys are cool….Han Solo is cool only because he doesnt chose sides (but he is borning no wow factor to him)….

I think a lot of the rage over them is there is a quote in the movie:

“these are not the stormtroopers you are looking for!”

Stormtroopers are the one that say it…so its funny!

Its basicly a shock value and that is why they are popular…..its unexpected for that reason alone “they are the bad guys”

I love this thread. SO MUCH! Haha. FH is a huge Star Wars fan as well. We’re having a Han and Leia cake topper:

And we’ll be walking out of the ceremony to the Throne Room song from the movie (I should also mention I’m a Star Trek fan and will be walking down the aisle to the Voyager theme song!)

I may get a garter with Darth Vader on it and FH will probably have Star Wars themed cufflinks.

It’s actually been a struggle to get him to agree to have dorky stuff in the wedding. He loves it but thinks it’s not traditional. But I think it’s great to have parts of your personality in the wedding! So we will be doing lots of dorky stuff because we are dorky! 😉

I realized this in no way answers the original Stormtroopers question. So I asked FH thinks it’s because there are usually what’s called 501st Legions in big cities (official Star Wars fan groups) that do free appearances mostly in Stormtroopers costumes. So, easy to get for your wedding, free (they will accept only donations to charities) and cool if you like Star Wars.

Annnd now because of his research, he wants Stormtroopers to visit the reception…hahahaha
