I haven’t looked too much into hair and makeup yet, but I’ve looked some. I also live in SC so that’s different too.

Most of the artists around here don’t charge for travel in the same town, but they do if it’s more than like 20 miles. All the ones I’ve seen that mention assistants also charge extra for those (by the hour).

mrsreardon2bee:  I’m in Los Angeles and it is the same way here….. My makeup artist met up with me at the hair salon. She charged me 60 dollars for travel, 250 for me and 80 for my mom, sil and mil.

I’m in Orange County, CA and I had to pay $200 in traveling fees for my makeup artist and my hair stylist to come to my house (about 5 miles).  I could have gone to their respective salons for free but I had a morning ceremony and I didn’t want the extra stress.  Hair and makeup ended up being more expensive than my dress!

mrsreardon2bee: there’s a minimal travel fee but I’m paying what I’m paying for hair for the girls not double paying. If they need an assistant to help, that’s on them. Or they can show up earlier in the day.

I got married in the NY area too, and I had to pay for travel too, which also makes sense to me. What exactly do you mean with assistant? Are they doing hair and make up too, or are they just assisting otherwise? I had one make up girl and one hair girl, so I obvloudly paid both, but no assistant. I think travel fee is normal, and if the assistant is doing work on you you have to pay for that too. I would ask though if the assistant is really needed and what exactly he/she does. Also, they need to let you know in advance how much those fees are.

Those are actually pretty good prices. I had just my hair done and it was $135. Make up would have been another $160. She did have a travel fee but waived it for me.

So while I agree with you on the nickel and diming and think the starting price is pretty darn good so if I were you I would just deal with it.

Are you paying for your girls hair and make up?

So odd! I’m in Canada and my makeup artist is charging a flat fee of $50 to travel a half hour. $85 per bridesmaid for makeup, and $105 for my makeup, all airbrush.

I didn’t have to pay a travel fee but I had to pay to open the salon early since I had an early morning wedding.
