I would get a different lawyer to be honest, or at least ask your current one to be very specific about what needs to be done. The visa process is  strict and pretty expensive so it’s best to get everything right the first time round!

Your lawyer sounds like crap. I hope you are not paying for him. There’s no need to stress out. It took me 3 month to get my AOS and GK (from within the US). You have a bunch of options like getting your CR visa, K visa or a pure AOS.

There’s the AILA MAP. Sounds like your future husband is military, right? Check it out. Our lawyer was great. We didn’t have any worries at all.

Before we moved to the US I was stressed as well but looking back there was no reason.

Edit: are you married already? Then you just can go with the CR visa

dedo87 :  I might consider getting another attorney if I were you. But I’d look around before actually getting rid of your attorney.

The info you should know and should be able to ask your attorney is:

What is the visa called that you are applying with?

When is my filing date?

What is my priority date and where can I go to check it?

What is due next? And what do I need to do to prepare for it? If the attorney says nothing soon. You can say even if its a year away you want to know.

You can look around the USCIS website as well they have a lot of articles.  Make sure its the .gov site. I believe its http://www.uscis.gov

The government agencies involved in immigration are:

USCIS which is part of DHS

FBI is likely doing the background check and possibly Department of Justice.

Sounds like a lot but we have a lot of overlapping agencies here. The main one you’ll likely deal with is USCIS.

I’m not a lawyer I just have seen the process via family going through it.
