My friend and I are planning on taking a day trip to DC after school lets out for summer to find some fabric for some projects around my house. We are looking for warehouse type fabric shops, I think there are some in Chinatown but not sure. And also going for sushi, so any tips there are also greatly appreciated!

DC’s Chinatown is not like New York’s. At all. I’m not aware of any fabric stores in the city at all. If you’re driving, there are G Street Fabrics in the suburbs. Sorry.

The only 2 I know of are G street in Rockville and JoAnn’s in Gaithersburg. Oh, I think there’s a Hancock Fabrics in Gaithersburg also.
I really don’t think that people in DC craft at all, so if you find anything, please let me know!

There are lots of crafters in DC, but there are not really any fabric warehouses.
Bestforlast is right, DC’s chinatown is not like New Yorks. There are a couple of locations for both G Street and Joann’s fabrics, but if you’re coming from Pasadena the Rockville & Gathersburg locations will be the easiest to get to.

I recently visited a Hancock Fabrics in Alexandria on route 1. I think there are also some JoAnn’s in that area; although I’d do some searching, because I know some Joann’s have a much larger selection of fabric than others. I’m in Fairfax, and the closest Joann’s to me has next to nothing, but I know of others that have a large selection; there is also a G Street out here, and a Calico Corner.

im a big fan of G street off of Rt 50 in Fairfax, but theres no garment district in DC like new york so you will be dissapointed by going to chinatown in DC. (ps. we call it ‘chinablock’ since its literally like…. a block)
are you looking for dress type fabrics? or home decor type fabrics (textiles?) there are some good places down in F’burg for good prices near the outlets if thats your bag.

yeah I wouldn’t look to chinatown in DC for your fabric needs…there are a couple of fabric places around the University Ave./College Park area, (think New Hampshire Ave….I think it’s called Langley Park?) but you’ll be sorely disappointed if you go to Chinatown in DC…

Hmm, well that sucks. We have Hancock Fabrics and Joann’s here, but I was looking more for a big warehouse type place. I am looking for textile fabrics. Maybe we’ll go to Rockville instead, i have a good friend who lives there and is crafty, so I’ll see where she goes for her stuff.
