Here’s my honest & detailed review of my custom dress ordering experience with Fabulous U.
First, these are the concept pictures I sent to them:
This is the final product:
For the most part, I love how my dress turned out! There were a few hiccups along the way (I’ll get to this), but overall the experience was a good one.
PRICE & GUARANTEE. I did my research with several different online companies before choosing Fabulous U. Fabulous U won my business because they responded quickly to my inquiries & gave me clear instructions, all with a very reasonable price quote. Most importantly, they guaranteed my satisfaction. We did run into some problems along the way, but each time they addressed my concerns & fixed what needed to be fixed. Due to the nature of ordering custom, there were some miscommunications that needed to be cleared up, but they didn’t charge me any extra for the adjustments. I really appreciated how they stuck to their guarantee & made sure I was satisfied with the final product.
QUICK RESPONSE TIME. Fabulous U responded very quickly to all of my requests, questions, & concerns – usually within the next business day. This is a BIG deal for brides like me who are taking the risk to order a wedding dress online! I wanted to be involved during every step of the process, & Fabulous U allowed me to do just that.
TONY. Tony runs the show & is absolutely wonderful to work with! I’ve read about some negative experiences other brides had with online companies, but I never encountered any shady dealings or bait & switch situations with Tony. He is a genuine person who wants to make his customers happy. It was such a relief to have someone I could trust working with the team to get it done. As you all know, a busy bride does NOT need any more drama on her plate!
DETAIL WORK. The majority of my dress was done in no time flat, but the details were another story. I had to request additional adjustments several times – mainly for the beadwork on the sweetheart neckline & the unique hemstitch for the bottom half of my dress. Although Fabulous U was eventually able to fix the beadwork, it took several attempts:
I’m grateful it turned out so well (last photo), but I had a mini heart attack each time I received the earlier photos that looked nothing like what I wanted. My advice is to BE PATIENT & COMMUNICATE CLEARLY about what you want. The more pictures the better! Trust that the team working on your dress really DOES want to make it exactly as you want it, they just need more information. I would say that the beadwork turned out 90% close to what I wanted.
The unique hemstitch on my dress was very important to me, but sadly didn’t turn out quite like the concept photos. This was partially my own fault because I gave them incorrect instructions about the width of the hemstitch. Besides the width, however, the hemstitch is not very visible on my dress. Again, it’s super important to communicate clearly about the details of your dress EARLY ON in the process. I would say that the hemstitch was only 60% close to what I wanted.
MISSING GARMENT BAG. My only other complaint is that I received my wedding dress without a garment bag. After I emailed Fabulous U about this, Tony said he could send it to me for free, but I would have to pay for shipping. I was not too happy about the shipping, but then realized I had to order a few more items anyways. I’ll post additional reviews & photos of the rest of the items when I receive them. Lesson learned: order ALL of your items together to avoid additional shipping costs & make sure to specify they need to include the garment bag!
BOTTOM LINE: Order with Fabulous U if you want a great deal on a beautiful dress. Be clear about what you want & send LOTS of pictures if you’re picky like me. Finally – trust that the team is working FOR you, not against you. The final product will turn out “fabulous”
My final advice to all of you who are interested in ordering a custom dress – AVOID THE SPRING FESTIVAL SEASON (usually around January/February). This applies not just to Fabulous U, but to all other companies based in China. Most of the companies will be up front about the fact that their employees all go home for a month during this holiday season. Even the weeks leading up to it can be pretty hectic. My order was supposed to be completed prior to this year’s spring festival, but I requested several rounds of additional adjustments. Fabulous U graciously accommodated all of my requests, but this pushed the delivery time back by over a month.
If anyone has any questions about my experience, please feel free to PM me. I will be happy to walk you through the process or give additional tips!
