Clare, AVCs have large mirror-like facets so they throw a lot of pastely colors. Good Old Gold has a ton a videos of them and you can see the colors. They are gorgeous stones!

OP, both your rings are beautiful!

@cmbr:  moissanite sparkles kind of like a hologram, if you can think of what that looks like. The facets look a little blurrier to me and it doesn’t have a crisp contrast zone like a H&A diamond. It’s pretty hard to put in words but I can tell them apart very easily, at least IRL. They look very “shallow” to me, vs the depth a diamond has.

@Reign14:  Both rings are just gorgeous, and best part is that they’re very different in styles & cuts. You can choose to wear either one according to ur mood.

I don’t know about other bees but I’m older and married for 19yrs (today is our anniversary YAY!), I must at least own 200 RHR…LOL

I’m sure many girls will slowly build up their jewelry wardrobe…these blingbling beauties are just too fun!!

@Reign14:  LOL.. I’m thinking about getting a moissy as a RHR to satiate my (other) love for EMERALDS!  I have a round diamond with tapered baguette e-ring that I love, but I can’t hide my love for emeralds.  Would love to get a RHR with either a 1:4/1:3 ratio emerald or 3-stone emerald!  Swooon

OP, love both your rings!!  I can see why you would want 2 🙂

@cmbr:  Diamond and moissanite both have fire but it is qualitatively different when you look at it.

Another factor is, as the OP mentioned, that her diamond is a step cut. Step cut diamonds are more calm, serene diamonds. They have a steely sharpness which is awe-inspiring, but they don’t give off a lot of fire. If your cushion cut is a brilliant-type cut rather than a step cut (and I believe it is), and is good in cut and clarity, it should have a lot of fire, it’s meant to!

It’s always hard to explain something like this in words, but diamond fire looks like big bright sharp flashes that are sometimes a color (any color of the rainbow, tends to be the primary hues most often, at least for round brilliants) and at least as often, pure white light.

Moissanite fire is more like moving rainbow glitters, small and many of them at the same time and not many pure white flashes. As PPs mentioned the double refraction also has an effect on how this looks, a little blurry rather than sharp, and you will also see a lot more of the color of the environment mirrored back by it. It’s really colorful inside and doesn’t have the diamond shades of gray look.

Hi!

Here is my rhr and my original ering. My original ering is 1.12 ct diamond round, my rhr is 1.72 ct fb square moissanite! ering is yellow gold, rhr is white gold. dh picked them both for me, the ering almost 17 years ago, the rhr just recently. he says that my rhr is “me”. I love them both. I have to add that my moissy holds its own quite well against my diamond. I examine them in all kinds of lighting and they both react similarly. I don’t see “rainbows of color” in either of my rings. In store lighting, I can see sublte rainbows in my moissy, but it is only slight. Maybe because my moissy is larger and sqaure? Anyway, it is beautiful and my cell phone pics don’t do it justice!

I’ll do this someday but I think we should probably get married first before I spend money on a nice moissy.  Fi would die if I got another ring right now!  I’ll probably get something for the honeymoon tho and for other vacations/occassions.  He should be more understanding if I play it that way! Wink  Plus I have an oval center stone and think I might go more traditional with a round or go the oppposite again and go with a radiant!  Really loving radiants right now.
