I’d just like to start by saying I hate snark, especially when they have no idea what they’re talking about behind the veil of the internet…
The busy season started today (seeding) for us and DH’s friend’s (whom he works with and will probably partner with) wife posted a status about seeding starting today. One friend of hers made a comment which included, “good thing seeding isn’t all nighters!!” I replied with, “lol, seeding is the one thing thats an all nighter”. The rest went like this:
G: “interesting never heard of seeding being all-nighters…. harvest now thats another story….”
Me: “yeah, seeding and harrowing can be all-nighters. harvest, not so much. gets tough when the dew falls, but that also depends on the crop. DH’s gone out in the middle of the night to swath canola, but has come in before 10pm when thrashing wheat because it was too tough. Joy’s of farming. 😛 “
G: “wow you sure have it hard…… A, good thing R is around when you need him!!!”
Seriously?! Was that really necessary?? All I was doing was trying to be informative and you come out with that bullshit?! I’m not looking for any sympathy! I CHOSE this life and am PROUD of my Darling Husband and what he does!
I immediately texted Darling Husband and he went on FB and started giving it right back to her. She even had the gall to say at one point “some of us have families that need us! and kids need their dads.. and wives need their husbands!” I SO badly wanted to say,
“Both Darling Husband and I grew up on a farm, with dad’s that were full-time farmers, and we both had GREAT relationships with them and saw them frequently. We KNEW when the busy season came, we wouldn’t see them as often, but we understood that farming was their JOB and that because of it, we had a roof over our heads and food on our table! We are GRATEFUL to have such hardworking fathers that when they could, took the time to spend with their families!”
Unfortunately, I decided not to… Can’t STAND ignorant assholes that have NO idea…
ETA: I love my Darling Husband and how well he stands up for me. He was quite proud of it, too.
