How do you handle stuff like this?  Do you post a comment to it or do you email the person in private to tell them that they are posting inaccurate crap?

I’m always tempted to comment “You know that is NOT true.” but I’m not sure if that would make me look like a megabitch or something…

Really..when you get right down t it, 98% of facebook is nonsensical worthless crap.

I will sometimes just comment with a link to the snopes article. Usually people say oh thanks!

@FutureMrsWeston:  Ack I hear you!

I usually post corrections, but sometimes I get sick of arguing. There’s no reasoning with some people. You say you get sick of false / misattributed things getting posted, but they just keep doing it. For some people it’s led to me hiding their updates.

EDIT: As for the “call 112” thing, that’s the EU equivalent of 911.

I call people out for reposting dumb shit. I have zero cares in the world.

I’ll usually comment on it disputing the facts, source, or snopes or something. Some people get really defensive about it all though! Some of the things that get passed along are relatively harmless, but I’ve seen some about vaccines being used to deliberately make people sick, and people believing it! That’s the kind of garbage that’s usually reserved for the homeless guy yelling at everyone on the street about the mouse that lives in his brain or whatever.

I’ve got a group of friends and family that make sure to comment on all the suspicious “Share” posts to make fun of them. Seriously, if you’re going to say something’s true, at least do a 2 minute Google search to verify it!

You can block this person from showing up on your newsfeeds! I have a handful of friends blocked cause they repeatedly post useless stupid things that clutter my feed!

Oh golly, I have several friends that unwittingly post things that, if given any real thought, are so obviously fake that I can’t help wonder at their intelligence in posting them.  Sometimes I ignore it, for ones that might effect how they live their lives (spiders under toilets, calling #s, etc.) I will just in a comment say “Actually I am pretty sure this isn’t true. (link to place that says it is not).”

@FutureMrsWeston:  Omg like two weeks ago my Fiance was telling me about these new spiders. Well this is what he said…

Mind you we just got off a 3 hours flight and it was about 1am, he was very sleepy 😛

Fiance: OMG there is a new spider that came over here from india and it’s in florida now in their olive garden’s toilets!!
Me: What’s it look like?
Fiance:A black widow but instead has two parallel red lines
Me:And they’re only in olive gardens?
Fiance: Yeah! How creepy, we are never going there again.
Me:Where did you hear that?
Fiance: Facebook………..
Fiance:…I’m an idiot

Ugghhhhh my FI’s stepmom does this ALL the time. I check EVERYTHING she posts now. It’s like, a two-second Google search! I usually just respond with the Snopes article or something.

I usually just comment with a snopes link, or if it’s a news article from the Onion I tell them it’s the frigging Onion.

If I have the time I post the snopes article as a comment. Then I remove them from my feed.
