I’ve gotten dermaplaning at a dermatologist’s office and my skin is rather sensitive. I would suggest that since it’s your first time, you do a test run first to see how your skin reacts. For sure, my skin is very red and splotchy the first day. I like it a lot but I certainly would recommend that anyone with sensitive skin get it done at least a week prior to a major event so the skin calms down.

I should mention that I always get my bundled in with a lactic acid peel, which is more gentle. I think they do another kind of peel (maybe salyclic acid?) but that one really hurt my skin.

I got a facial this past weekend.. I was in Vegas for my bachelorette party and we had a spa day.. It felt great.. There are a couple to choose from and you can let the person know your concerns and they will do one that meets your needs.. I asked the woman what brand they use and what’s best for oily skin.. She wrote a face chart out of my problem areas and recommended “dermalogica” for oily skin.. That’s what brand they used in the spa so I bought the oily skin kit..they have for acne and sensitive skin too.. I want to have great skin for the wedding too.

@jesssamesssa:  I have had microdermabrasion 4 times, and I also have semi-oily skin that gets small bumps on occasion.  Mine tend to be the deep cystic pimples without heads too and it freaks me out when I get one.  I had no problem with the microdermabrasion and thought the results were okay.  I wasn’t blown away with the results, but it wasn’t a waste either.

i’ve gotten a facial and had NO problems. i have sensitive, semi-oily skin that usually has a few bumps. it was so relaxing and my skin felt a lot better/clearer/softer after. i’d recommend getting a few well in advance of the wedding to see how it works for you. i plan on getting one a month up until the wedding and then get my last one a few weeks before.

@jesssamesssa:  how your skin reacts to microderm has a LOT to do with how your prep for the treatment and how you treat your skin post treatment.

the week before microderm, do not exfoliate the treatment area at all. nothing abrasive, no scrubs, retinols, acids etc. make sure that you have a strong facial sunscreen for post treatment, your skin will need extra protection and will be sensitive. (vichy is a great brand for sun care)

also – ask about the type of treatment. some spas offer a ‘micro derm facial’ – it’s often a more intense facial, ensure that you are getting a true microdermabrasion machine. inquire about the training of the technician, and ask for an experienced technician, that will help you get the best results.

@jesssamesssa:  Good idea!  That way if you don’t love it, you won’t feel like you spent a fortune on it.  Good luck!
