I took my 1 hour gestational diabetes test two days ago and the results came back with a blood sugar level of 188. I have to go in on Monday for my three hour test. Just wondering if anyone has passed the three hour after failing the one hour. I have always been thin, and haven’t gained too much weight, so I’m shocked I didn’t pass. Let me know what your experiences were!

I haven’t taken my 1 hour test yet, I think I am due for it next month. But, I have heard of MANY people passing the 3 hour test after failing the 1 hour. Many healthy women get gestational diabetes, so don’t be hard on yourself.

Adamsfamily6991 : Yaaas, with my last pregnancy. I was so bummed I had to do the 3 hour. I’d always been thin and decently in shape too. I bet you’ll pass the three hour no problem and if not at least they’ll catch it. Just bring enough stuff to keep you busy/entertained for 4 hours. Your phone and charger, a book, knitting, anything to keep you busy between the hourly blood draws.

With both my pregnancies, I failed the 1 hour test but passed the 3 hour.

I’ve had friends who failed the one hour and passed the three hour.
Gestational diabetes is hormonal based. While weight can increase your risk, being thin and fit doesn’t exclude you. One of the fittest women I know (healthy eater, marathon runner) developed gestational diabetes with both her pregnancies and unfortunately it didn’t resolve after the second one and now has DM.
Good luck with your next test.

GD has very little to do with your current weight and lifestyle and much more to do with your placenta and hormones but having said that many women go on to pass the diagnostic test after failing the screen so don’t stress!

I passed the 3 hour after failing my first 1 hour. I passed my second one hour but they made me do the three hour anyway. I found for me I did way worse the first test because I thought I couldn’t have anything to eat. The second test I had some egg that morning and did so much better.

im niave, i didnt know it was something you could fail.. I literally just took my first one this morning. I hope i dont have to go back and sit for 3 hours, it was torturous enough to spend an hour staring at the ceiling.

Thanks for all the info, everyone! I’m happy to know more about why GD occurs, and I’m crossing my fingers I’ll pass the 3 hour!

Adamsfamily6991 : try not to stress. I failed the one hour test but passed the five hour one.

I failed the one hour, badly, and passed the 2 hour easily! Good luck, get it done as soon as you can do it’s not hanging over your head!

mrsnnn3 : I’m getting it done on Monday! Fingers crossed!

I failed both but just wanted to let you know a GD diagnosis isn’t too bad! It’s a bit more planning and work for your meals, but it’s a manageable condition and will be a distant memory once you deliver (and can immediately eat whatever you want!)
Best of luck, bee! Let me know if you have any GD questions 🙂
