I failed my 1 hour test and passed my 3 hour test.  I was told by my doctor that plenty of women fail the 1 hour test, but pass the 3 hour test.  I didn’t change anything.

Daizy914:  I’ve also heard of a lot of woman failing the 1 hour & passing the 3 hour. It’s ok to change your eating habits for these two weeks to pass, but will you keep it up the rest of your pregnancy? You don’t want to change things to pass the test, then go back to normal and really develop gestational diabetes and go untreated since you passed the test, they think everything is ok. Also, I don’t think it’s anything to be ashamed or angry at yourself about, perfectly healthy woman develop gestational diabetes, it’s just all the changes going on in your body.

I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour. Some of our bodies just take longer to process the sugar than an hour.

You can’t really prevent gestational diabetes, nor can you cause it. It’s just the way your body handles pregnancy. So don’t stress or blame yourself. It’s nothing you can control.

you can definitey still the three hour test. i asked my doctor if there were certain choices you could make to ensure you passed and he said no –  either develop it or you don’t. my bff did get GD and she had to visit a nutritionist and change her diet for the rest of her pregnancy. it wasn’t a huge deal, but definitely something she has to pay attention to. don’t feel mortified!

I failed one in my first pregnancy. I cut out food that was sugary, and never failed another.

I DID have two 9 pound babies though.

I no longer eat sugar or grain and now, years later, my blood sugar is fine.

I have/had (controlled now) full blown diabetes. Its only a test, drink lots of water, it’s important to be healthy all pregnancy, not just for the test. It’s not fun at all. To use insulin, picking your fingers and all the other problems diabetes can cause. Try to eat healthy, I did it and was very hard, but did it anyways. my sugars were over 400 if that makes you feel better….

Daizy914:  You have nothing to be ashamed about, pregnancy impacts everyone differently.  As long as you’re taking care of yourself and your baby, you’re doing great.  You’re 3 hour test will probably come back normal and you’ll be fine.  Try not to stress about it too much.

Daizy914:  I failed my first one, but passed my second one. Did you eat anything before you took the test? I failed my first one because I ate a sandwhich an hour before the test. So for my second one I ate absolutely nothing before going in, and passed with flying colors. Good Luck!

Daizy914:  A friend who failed her 1 hour told me not to eat or to eat something really light and bland before taking mine and it worked.

I had toast and tea and scheduled my test really early.

Don’t eat a big meal and don’t eat anything fatty or salty or sweet. The 3 hr is a b*tch but you will survive it!
