Personally, this seems high to me, especially since you said your bridesmaids can’t afford it. I would investigate other options.

I think it depends on where you are and the level of skill the hairstylist/MUA has, honestly. Can you share some pics of their work?

Wow very expensive! My hair stylist and makeup girl are traveling to my hotel room the day of my wedding. The hair stylist is charing a flat rate of $80 per girl, the make-up girl is charging $55 per girl, $60 if you want to add fake eye lashes. Total per person for hair and makeup is $135-$140. We are not being charged tax or travel fees! I’d look around, you can find better prices. I have two girls that don’t want makeup done, so their cost is $80 for hair only. No deposit required either. We have a verbal and written agreement via email confirming cost, date and time.

I think you definitely need to shop around especially if your bridesmaids can’t afford it and you can’t help them out.  When I’m a bridesmaid I never get my makeup done, are you requiring them to?  If not than taking that out of the equation might make it cheaper for them.

That seems steep to me.

Our ladies are charging $120 for both hair and make up for me and my bm’s

our junior bm’s (13 year olds) are $70 for both of them for hair and make up.

No travel expenses or tax.

Total for 2bm’s, 2jnr bm’s & me = $430

Hard to judge – what are other artists rates in your area vs the world?  Your artist’s rates are slightly less than mine (the sales tax confuses me but it’s Canada so what do I know).

Read over her contract and understand it.  If you want to book this artist and she has no minimums – book her for yourself for now.  If she has a minimum booking, book that minimum.  Ask if she books multiple weddings a day (if yours is in the afternoon/evening, she’ll likely be focusing on your wedding only that day).  Explain your bridesmaids situation to her and ask if you can add on your extra bridesmaids later with advance notice (again – read the contract).

that is CRAZY expensive. i wouldn’t be willing to pay over $70 for attendants.

i got a great deal- i had my usual hair dresser come to our house on her own (not via the salon) and she did everyone’s updos for $50! a total steal

ETA: shit, i am an idiot. didn’t see the makeup part.

so let me change it- and say for hair and makeup it sounds fairly reasonable. maybe a little on the expensive side.

i spent a total of $100 on hair and $150 on makeup for trials and day-of, not including tips or a travel fee for my makeup artist.

then my bridal party paid $50 for hair and $65 for full-face makeup.

This is VERY, VERY expensive.  Besides the fact that they’re charging tax on each “transaction,” i.e. person, which is waaaaaaaaaay more expensive in taxes than having them tax a lump sum contract, which is what they should be doing legally (in the US – New York.)

My hair and makeup is $100, and so are my attendants hair and make up, and she’s coming to our house! Mind you, she is a friend but we became friends after my being introduced to her for my bridal hair and makeup, so we’re inviting her to the reception too, as she’ll be keeping my hair and makeup in check all night….all for the original $100.00 price. She is a NYC Aveda Institute graduate, and works wonders.

Keep looking!

That sounds really expensive! I’m about 2 hours from NotL and mine is $50 for consult, $80 for bride hair/makeup, $60 bridal party hair/makeup.

I think this really depends on the MUA’s experience and clientele.  If they are in high demand they are going to rightfully charge higher rates.

I think the price for the bride is about average (I saw hair & makeup each being $120– EACH) but it seems expensive for the bridesmaids

@Firenze:  how is it more in taxes to do it separately than together? it’s 13% either way (isn’t it?)
