Keeping my natural nails.. I have really nice nails, and I wouldn’t want to ruin them with acrylics!

I wish I had beautiful nails naturally…but they are weak and brittle and chip allllll the time. I have no idea what I will be doing. What exactly is shellac? Is it another type of fake tips?

Natural, always. Acrylics are really bad for your nails and just…unattractive/unsanitary.

Shellac is a hybrid nail polish that is awesome. Goes on like regular polish, sets with an LED or UV light, stays shiny and chip-free for ~14 days.

Natural length with gel polish.  No tacky fake long nails.

I did gel/shellac!  I love gel/shllac and will never go back to acrylics for special occasions.  Gel/Shellac is more like a thicker version of regular polish that is applied in layers and set with the UV light.  It comes out thicker than regular polish, but not as thick as acrylics nails do.  Gel/shellac also lasts longer than regular polish about 1-2 weeks!  Here are my nails with gel polish from 5 days ago… (sorry for the massive photo it is not applying the resizing for some reason)

I was planning on Shellac but then the week before the wedding I had a couple of nails break super short.  So I ended up going with acrylic.

Definitely go natural with shellac if you can! And you have a little bit of time to gain some length before then, but I think well-kept shorter nails look best anyway.

@Natalieh86:  I’ve been growing mine out with shellac for the past few weeks, and just had a major split appear halfway down my left thumbnail. Hoping it can stay intact for another month, but we’ll see.
