Hi all –
Getting married on October 23 this year, and most of the wedding is basically planned. We’re going for the ever popular vintagey-romantic wedding with the colors of pinks, grays and creams. However, the most kick ass thing is that my college (Penn State) plays his college (Minnesota) that day! So, I’m trying to think of a few things to incorporate into the wedding since most of the people coming are from one school or the other.
A few of my ideas are, being originally from Pittsburgh, there are going to to Eat ‘n’ Park cookies – some in blue and white and some in red and yellow. Also, we’re doing the makeshift photobooth, so I thought about having some pom poms or other football-related items for pictures.
Would be greatful for any other creative ideas you can come up with! I know it’s a weird mix – romance and football, but I guess that’s the best of both worlds for everyone!

For the photobooth, can you have a picture of a football player and a cheerleader blown up, glued to plywood or styrofoam, cut the faces out and let people take their pictures like at the carnival?
You could have football shaped chocolates or bobblehaeds for favors.
You could incorporate the theme into your centerpieces with pennants, small footballs, or tickets .
I thinkl it could be a lot of fun and still be very attractive.
Here’s a link to a football centerpiece(sorry, can’t post pics at work)
It would be a bit much for me but there are tiny footballs that you can get at dollar stores , glue onto sticks or twigs and include amongst the flowers.
I don’t know that I wold do this as a centerpiece, but it might be cute for the escort cards:

wow, i’m surprised your fi let you have your wedding during a game! we just decided football season was out for our wedding date b/c he wouldn’t want to miss a game, and neither would our guests!
you could play your fight songs, they’d make a good entrance.

I think its funny that you think its “the most kick ass thing”. FH wouldn’t even let me choose ANY date in the fall because of college football lol. Thats why we went with summer. You should have the game playing somewhere.

WE ARE PENN STATE! WOO 🙂
I went to a wedding 2 years ago when it was the same night as a Penquins playoff game. The couple walked into the reception to the Pens intro song waiving towels. It was really cute!
Maybe you two could do the same? Blue/White towel and whatever Minnesota’s colors are. Stupid suggestion I know but I just wanted to comment LOL.

You could name the tables after great players or coaches or moments in Minnesota and Penn State history.

The one thing I would NOT do is have the game playing somewhere. You can PVR it to watch later. If you have it on at the reception, yoou will lose HALF the guests and ALL the attention!

@julies1949 – I know this is old but I just now saw this 🙂 The reason I said the game should be playing somewhere is that I’ve been to a wedding where a game was happening and it seemed like there was no on in the reception because all the people kept sneaking away to watch the game in the back room. I’ve also been to a reception where they had a game playing and people loved it! Plus people could just casually check in on it and didn’t have to disappear and then choose to stay away.
You can see here what they did with it so they could watch the Clemson game. http://jenniferbearden.com/weddings/jennifer-and-josh-are-married

We are big Chargers fans so we did 3 things. First we had a picture of us in Chargers jerseys. Our last name is the same as one of the players, so we wore his jersey.
Second, we walked in to the Charger’s kickoff song.
And third, we each wore a foam finger.
They were small touches, so the wedding wasn’t “football” themed, but they really showed our personalities and people thought it was great.
Our wedding was during a preseason game, so totally different, but people kept coming up to Fiance and giving him scores all night. No one actually watched it.

Go Nittany Lions!!
How about a photo cut out of Joe Pa for the photo booth….on a stick like the moustaches……so he can be in the photos….
Football shaped Groom’s cake?

my brother’s wedding was on the day of a football game. not a big one, but it was his school. they switched the game dates after they set a date, otherwise he would have never allowed that! the table with all of his friends had a mini tv (one of the guys brought it) and they spent most of the time watching the game. but really, they aren’t the type of guys who would be up dancing anyway.
my sil surprised my brother with a whole football table where she put the grooms cake, which was a cookie cake (my brother’s favorite) with football stuff on it. she put all sorts of football stuff on it, like pom poms and a signed photo of the coach of the team that said “congratulations!”

We would never schedule our wedding during football season in the South. 1. We’re at the game, anyway! 🙂 2. noone would show. haha! Example: good friend of ours is getting married during a home Clemson game against Georgia Tech this year. She’s a rival South Carolina fan…but she should have known better, I know we won’t be the only Tiger fans struggling with the decision. We are praying for a mid-day kick off, just so we could make it to Columbia for the reception. Otherwise….? haha!
SO- I agree with @june42011 on this one. Here is a fellow Clemson alumni who’s wedding was scheduled…and so happened to be on our bowl game night. Bowl season is unpredictable that far in advance, so they had the game on in the corner. That way fans could check in on the game in between all the dancing!
I’m sure it will be a great time, no matter what!

i recently got busted for planning our wedding showers around ohio state football games (oops?). my fiance went to texas tech and obviously they never play OSU, but if his school was a rival (or even in the big 10…) i would love to make a grooms cake like this: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/22/39924684_fa8cf2328a.jpg
you could put the schools on each end!

@blondeeebuckeye: I love that idea for a cake! I kinda wanted to meet a Texas guy so we could have the house divided welcome mat.
