I have just noticed from photos that my dress makes me look shorter and thicker waisted than other dresses!
Maybe because the hem is slightly too short and the waist area is too big, but even when I cinch it in it doesn’t look that different, so I’m not sure how it will help? I could either get the sides taken in or change it to a corset back.
Left is original. Right is with me cinching the back tighter. Is there much difference?
Back of dress:
And here’s me in my backup dress 2, with the same 3 inch heels! I don’t even know why this dress makes me look taller. I bought this because it was cheap in the sale, but I wanted to wear the first one for the wedding.
Would really appreciate some opinions on what I can do to make dress 1 better, or should I just wear dress 2 and forget about 1?

So normally I’m a proponent of using alterations to make your dress look amazing on you…but when I scrolled down and saw dress #2, I totally changed my mind. Dress #2 just seems to have much more of a wow factor and really flatters your figure!
I’m sorry to say that I don’t love dress #1 on you. It looks much better when you cinch the waist (it shows off your figure better and changes the shape of the skirt into a nicer shape). But holy dress #2, girl!

What look are you going for? Dress #1 is sweet and romantic, Dress #2 has major glam and sex appeal.
I know for my wedding I would want #1. The waist of my dress drove me crazy as well. I am wearing a corset underneath; it makes a huge difference. I think your dress looks lovely either way.

BeeBlake : I’m afraid to admit I’m also not liking dress 1 on me lol! But maybe because it cost more than dress 2, I want to love it :/
TeresaBenedicta : I always imagined myself in a princessy dress, and I thought I hated mermaids until recently, so I agree with you I was also going for the look of dress 1!

Wow, dress 2 is a showstopper! I usually tell brides to stick with their first choice, but I actually really do think you’ll be happier with dress 2! It looks amazing on you! I’d definitely recommend wearing that one and and selling the first dress.

You look amazing in dress two. Sell dress one!

I think #2 is far more flattering on you overall, even though I generally like the style of dress 1 better. #1 does look a lot better with the cinched waist, so if you stick with that I would for sure get it altered. The waist also looks like it should be higher up to hit at your natural waist, but since the hem is too short, that would also mean adding fabric onto the bottom.

#2 is all around more flattering IMO. If you decide to wear #1, I would have the waist taken in, but not add a corset because I don’t think it would fit the cut. The first dress looks like it needs to be taken up on the shoulders to shift the waistline and the bodice up. I think this is what is causing you to not look as long and lean in the gown.

Your backup dress is a show stopper compared to the first dress. Wear the second one!! It’s more flattering and you’re wearing the heck out of that dress! To be honest, it makes the first dress look rather frumpy.

Dress 2 is stunning its so pretty! I just don’t see anything special with dress 1 i say sell it

you all have just confirmed what I was worried about, that dress 1 is no good! At least I do have a backup dress.
I wish I had made the poll multiple votes, it seems everyone is just picking dress 2 and I’m still not sure what I should do about dress 1 if anything. I am sort of sad to sell it, but if it’s “frumpy” on me I don’t think I will ever wear it :/

I see a difference with dress #1 being cinched. But you look killer in dress #2!!!

I don’t think you look frumpy in the first dress, but it kinda looks plain. The second dress looks special and amazing on you.

thank you all who said nice things about dress 2 🙂 I’m very relieved most of you like it, means at least I have something to wear!
I think I might just have to face the truth that I made a mistake to buy dress 1 and try to sell it, but I don’t think I will get anything for it so might still go ahead and do the alterations so I can at least wear it to take photos in or something. But I think most of you hate it lol, so I’ll see if I’m able to sell it for a decent price first. Argh the dreaded Dress Regret!
