I was on his facebook uploading pictures and I came across a message that he sent to a friend saying he bought a ring. I was so excited and thought that any time we went on a date he was going to propose. This was October 2011. He finally proposed June 2012. There were a lot of disappointments in that time! haha.

This happened to me!!  I was expecting an engagement – it was long overdue.  I arrived home one day to find flowers on the counter for me.  It was around Valentine’s day. They were really lavish and not what I normally am given. It turned out the florist put a big rhinestone in the bouquet.  As decoration I guess? Well, I started to cry tears of joy and immediately went to pull it out, only to find that it was a fake rhinestone glued to a flower.  My (now) Darling Husband felt SOOOO terrible that it wasn’t actually a ring.  I got the real thing a few days later.  It’s hysterical to us in hindsight.

HA, yes. We’d been looking at rings for a few months, and he wanted to take a trip up north to celebrate my college graduation. We were out on the dock one night, looking at the gorgeous night sky, and I really, really thought that he was going to propose. I ended up crying part of the ride back home because I was so sad. 🙁 He said that he didn’t really want to propose around family, and hello, we hadn’t found a ring yet (duh).

He did actually propose 6 months later.

Yep. We were off to Rome on holiday and he told me beforehand that he’d bought me something tiny and special, but he had to give it to me in Rome, preferrably someplace romantic. Totally got my hopes up.

Turns out it was a valentine’s day card. Boo.

I know its not what you asked but I thought Id share my goofy proposal story:

We made the choice to elope last summer but then by fall we had changed our minds to wanting a small intimate wedding instead. So I knew he was going to propose I just didn’t know when.  Then one day in December he went out to pick up lunch while I lounged around our room. He came home and called me down to the kitchen and I was almost down the stairs before something inside me said “he’s proposing now”. I stopped dead in my tracks and yelled out from the stairs “are you proposing?” he just kept saying “come here please”…. I told him I knew what he was doing and he would have to wait because I wanted to at least be wearing a bra when I get proposed to haha! I ran back up the stairs got dressed and when I came back down he had the whole first floor of the house decorated with flowers and he was on one knee.

I felt a little bad that I ruined his surprise but we still laugh about it.

This is cute! I cant really remember any specific moments, but I had told him in Sept. 2011 that if he asked I wouldnt say no. We ring shopped in Dec. and picked one in March. I spent ALL summer in Hawaii with him, from May- August, with the ring sitting in the closet. It just about killed me waiting for him to ask so I could ‘officially’ wear my ring (even though while he was at work I wore it all the time) And finally about a week before I left he proposed. We were on a hike and he says “So, are you gonna marry me?” I told him when he asks me properly I will. About an hour later he was down on one knee, and even though I knew it was coming I cried like a silly girl! I think the waiting and wondering made it so much better when he actually did it.

Long time ago – end of the year in 2009 around all the holidays, my fiance started a conversation like what part of town would we live in if we got married, what would we do about his dad that had been living with him for a while.  He had been really thinking about it.  Holidays go by and nothing.  In the middle of January 2010 he urges me to set up my appt for the spa because that was one of his gifts from Christmas.  He wanted to drop me off/pick me up and then go to a very nice dinner.  I was certain that he was going to propose.

But I was wrong! He proposed 3 1/4 years later.

One night last Feb we had dinner at our favourite restaurant and went for a walk in a garden in Niagara Falls. It was very casual, we had our winter jackets on, just walking through our favourite spot where he first told me he loved me. I knew he had purchased the ring and thought it would have made for a perfect night, simple enough. We still had a good night but he didn’t pop the question. The following week his grandmother died 🙁 The next weekend he took me away for the weekend and proposed. He followed through even though he had lost someone so special. I won’t forget that.
