i have an 11 year old Chihuahua who has never been spayed and has had one litter of three puppies. We’ve noticed in the last couple of weeks that her nipples are full of milk and I’ve even noticed it dripping it out occasionally. I did some googling and discovered that she may be going through a false pregnancy. Have any of you bees experienced this? I am not sure how long this is supposed to last but I cannot handle her constant dripping all over her blankets and the really loud licking sounds in the middle of the night lol.

I think the person best qualified to help you would be your vet.

@Miss Apricot: I agree, and maybe in the mean time, put a doggie shirt on her to help soak up the leaking.

I’m a vet… It does sound like she could be having a false pregnancy. Talk to your vet – there is a drug they can give to block prolactin called Cabergoline and stop the signs. Try not to let her stimulate her nipples or pet her there; you can definitely put a t-shirt on her. I would recommend having her spayed to prevent recurrence on her next cycle as well as to prevent pyometra.
