Lebanese folks or immigration attys….How much time would it take for family members from Lebanon to get a visa to attend our wedding? By the way, please don’t say “inform them as soon as you know the date” — for “drama” reasons we don’t want to tell his family about the wedding until it’s absolutely neccessary. So for a May 14th 2011 wedding, what do you think the drop-dead latest we should spill the beans is and still give them time to prepare to come?

I am inviting family from Nigeria and the embassy suggested that I send them a formal invitation 8 months in advance. Apparently, they have to get a lot of paperwork pulled together before they can submit the fomr for the visa. I’m assuming it would be a similar process for Lebanon.
I can completely understand avoiding family drama, but don’t forget that it will be an expensive trip and your guests from Lebanon may need up to a year to save up for the trip.

ASAP!!!!! We have family and friends that live in the Middle East, people sometimes wait for years to get visa’s, most often it’s months. There is no such thing as “rushing” the paperwork. My daughters good friends have been planning their wedding in Lebanon for a year. The groom waited until May to apply for his paperwork to go to Lebanon, the wedding was scheduled for this coming Saturday and his paperwork is still not here. Lots of other family and friends stuck with expensive tickets and no wedding! Sooner is better, but I would say no less than 6 months, more if you are able.

I’d also say ASAP. Everytime I have to go to the US embassy, I have to stand by the little table where they’re giving/rejecting Visas to the US for non-EU natationalities for about 20-30 minutes and almost always I hear arguements between the officer and the person about when they filed for the visa.
