Marina Jean, James Rollo (Rah-low), Jeanne Ann, William James. My MN is Jean to incorporate both grandmothers. Brothers use William and James to incorporate both grandfathers.

If I ever have a daughter, I’m using Marina Noelle (Mom’s MN).

My grandmas both had/have fun stories that go with their names haha.

Mary “Sue” (her brother always called her Sue even though her full name was Mary Eleanor…and so Sue caught on and everyone always called her that)

married to Russell

Lawrence

married to Minnie (whose mother was first-generation Italian immigrant and spoke no English, so when she birthed my grandma she said some kind of Italian name that the American midwife didn’t understand; all she heard from it was “mini” and that’s what she put on the birth certificate, so for many years my grandma’s legal name was Mini…she had it legally changed to Minnie at some point.)

Mom’s parents were Jack and Dorothea. My grandma’s parents actually meant to name her Dorothy – but when she found her birth certificate as a teenager she was like, “mom, why don’t you call me by my name?” and her mom was like – “That’s not your name, your name is Dorothy!” … but she always went by Dot in later life anyway.

Dad’s parents were William and Catherine Alice – but my grandfather’s birth name was Wladyslaw (very Polish, yes) – but the nuns in is Catholic elementary school did not know how to pronounce that so they chaned it to William. So literally only his BC has Wladyslaw on it, the rest of his documents (driver’s license, marriage license, Army papers) all have William. Catherine Alice also just went by Alice.

(also, for the record, Wladyslaw – which is pronounced like “Voloslof” – is Polish for “Walter,” not William.)

I love how both sides have some funny birth certificate story. 🙂
