I did this, in the mountains near Telluride CO.  Family only. Around 20 people I think. Skipped the traditional reception and had a great dinner after ceremony instead. It was perfect! Also, skipped the traditional wedding dress as well.

We are having an immediate family only wedding next month, just our parents and sisters will be there (and 2 of their boyfriends, since they’re in long term relationships). 12 people total, including Fiance and I. We also are skipping the reception and going out to dinner after the ceremony. Both families live out of state so we’ll all be spending the weekend together and then we leave for our honeymoon on Monday. Honestly, it has caused some problems and hurt feelings of extended family members on FI’s side, but most people have been understanding and supportive.

MrsC2016:  This is exactly what we are doing, minus the Destination Wedding. We had planned the wedding just like yours and I just kept thinking, “is the money worth it?” And we just sat down last night and decided it was not. We will have about 20 people, including us and a small reception at a local dessert cafe.

I do not have to book a venue, because the reiver front chapel does not require reservations for such a small event. I plan to hire a photographer, which will be our biggest expense, then the officiant and we will dress very simply. I am actually way more excited about this than I ever was about having a large ceremony.

MrsC2016:  I did something similar. We had 12 guests and it was immediate family only. It took away all the stress from a traditional wedding and I love that our families really got to know each other.
