I’ve been thinking about family style dining as a nice best-of-both-worlds between “pick what food you want” and “please don’t make us stand in line for 20 minutes”. But I’m concerned about the whole possibly-disastrous idea of passing large plates of food around.
Coincidentally, I also adore lazy susans. I think they are really fun. I think it would be awesome to have a big one that all the food fits on, and to be able to rotate the entire tabletop spread AND the centerpiece… without messing up whatever nice arrangement thay are in or risking knocking over the centerpiece. (Though honestly, just the idea of rotatable centerpieces is filling my head with ideas! Maybe something low-ish and organic and branchy… or maybe just a beautifully painted lazy susan that we won’t need to put a centerpiece on so that it won’t be as crammed when the food arrives… hmm…)
Anyway – I’ve read here and there on the Bee that traditional Chinese banquets often involve said large lazy susans. Neither my fiance nor I is Chinese, but we like borrowing cool elements from anywhere and everywhere. (I am pretty sure
