@Baker2312:  Can you give us an idea of what style/color/theme/atmosphere that you would like your reception to be?  Is it outdoors/indoors?  Do you like flowers?  Let us know a little more about your venue, then we can get the wheels turning! 🙂

Our caterer recommended small, low centerpieces for our family-style meal. We’re primarily using clusters of small colored glass bottles filled with blooms accented with a few things like antique books, small boxes or other glass objects.

@Baker2312:  If it were me, I probably wouldnt design any centerpieces to be high because of the family style reception.  1.  you dont want it being too cluttered, and 2. you don;t want to create a natural barrier when you are creating a warm intimate environment with the passed entrees.  I would keep it simple.  You can even order wholesale flowers from growers.  I used http://www.freshroses.com, and they have all kinds of flowers.  They were perfect for me because I didnt needthat many blooms, but If you need more blooms, sams club was going to be my next bet.  You could do some simple bud vases with a few stems in each (what I did for my reception) or you can do one low vase in the center with 10 blooms or so.  You could incorporate something you love, if you’re a book lover, stack a few books in the center to give it texture and height with a small vase and votive candles around it.  Since it’s family style, it could also be really cute to use small framed photos of you and your Fiance and both sides of the family.  You could even do something like small bonsai trees or tree looking plants to make a “family tree” style centerpiece… or a small mini garden scene with bonsai trees in pots, or succulents.  (these are ideas just off the top of my head, hope they have helped a bit)
