If the one caterer won’t do it, can you do the Indian food as buffet and then family style for the russian food? Then you would also not need as much extra space. Maybe then just do the ten person round and seat 8 at each table. I would have the family style food placed on the tables after each table goes up to the buffet. This way it doesn’t seem like the buffet is only for the one side. I am guessing your side will already know why they aren’t getting served the Russian food. Unless you can find options that they can eat.

Can’t the Russian caterer do a veggie option for your side? Then you could serve everyone both cuisines. If not then it would be rude to make one side go get their food while serving the other. Plated is not family style so are they changing it for you or no?

Hey! I am also an Indian bride in Michigan. i know there are Indian restaurants and caterers who allow you to buy trays of food instead of doing per person catering buffet style. My family did this for my brothers engagement party. You could get trays of various dishes delivered, then have servers plate these into vessels to be served family style. It shouldn’t be too hard to do! I agree that doing half family style and half buffet would be confusing and awkward. Some people would be getting up to walk to the buffet while others are passing dishes around the table…

You are the customer. Rather than asking Indian caterers if they do family style, tell them you are having family style and ask what their charge would be for that? If they do not have appropriate serving dishes you could offer to take care of those rentals.

I have been to several social events here where Indian food was served family style.

As for other things you would need – definitely more servers so that they can bring out fresh naan and replenish serving bowls. I’m not sure about the table situation – but maybe you could just seat fewer people at every table to bypass hunting down larger tables?

We did family style and loved it! Everyone got to eat exactly what they wanted as much as they wanted with out standing up and waiting. It’s also more social and the food is hotter.

We did doubled tables so they were 6″ wider than the usuAl banquet rectangle tables. You definitely need to keep the settings and decor simple to save space. Our caterer discouraged chargers for that reason.
